this chip trade war stuff is perplexing. It seems like the only long term outcome is accelerating China’s capacity to manufacture computers. Like, the US could have had a few more decades of co-dependancy to coast on if they had just left alone.

I’m sure there’s some greedy assholes out there with dollar signs in their eyes at the prospect of being able to raise prices in the future as trade wars increase chip scarcity. Those people will also probably be invested in china’s chip manufacturing to cover all their bases.

Definitely some people who would be happy with covid-era chip scarcity and beyond. But hopefully risc-v can remain open source and gain momentum to unseat the dominance of us chips as a result. Besides we really don’t need the most cutting edge chips for most useful applications today.

    Wow, jealous much…

I hate China about as much as I hate USA, but this is a bit insane and goes against the spirit of open source.

      both-sides galaxy-brain

bothsidesism truly is the laziest algorithm of politics. you simply declare that you “hate equally” two sides that are “equally bad” without any material analysis of what their relative imperfections may be. One does not have to think China is perfect or even good to see that it is not the global hegemon with 800 military bases and 5000 nukes and several torture dungeons waging multiple proxy wars simultaneously while couping, sanctioning, embargoing, and invading anyone that threatens its supremacy.
