Nobody understands this guy’s movies and ends up glorifying the reactionary characters as peak manhood lol
It’s not a Scorsese film, but never look at the comments on a video of the American History X curb stomp scene. Worst mistake of my life.
I knew a lot of people that missed the point of that movie. Like, the guy destroyed his life because of a devotion to fascism that never loved him back. I remember thinking “did we even watch the same movie?”
Same thing for Fight Club. Its based on a book written by a gay man about toxic masculinity but dudes watch it like its aspirational
I’ve always got to be careful when I point out that fight club was one of the most influential movies of my teenage years.
I didn’t miss the whole point, ok???
The guy who introduced me to Fight Club was one of those “Tyler Durden is right about everything” types. Colored my view of the movie for years.
Nobody understands this guy’s movies and ends up glorifying the reactionary characters as peak manhood lol
I know way too many people that did exactly that. I am biologically related to many of them.
If Travis Bickle had video games and posting he would have been basically fine
Some filmmakers see movies as an art form and just fumble their way to fame and fortune. Others see them as a product
Scorsese strikes me as the former, Josh whedon, the latter.
Ehh, I know Joss Whedon has turned out to be a massive prick and I don’t like how his overall style has come to be so influential to commercial nerd-bait slop today, but he is/was a genuine writer and artist. He did push the artistic form of television forward with Buffy, Angel, and Firefly.
I actually liked his style of dialogue before it became just how everyone talks in media for a while.
Yeah me too. I think a lot of the writers who imitate his style accentuate the more annoying aspects of it.
Aaron Sorkin did it first. Whedon pared it with more likeable characters and accessible settings
Everyone forgets about Dollhouse.
Lmao I just learned that “Josh whedon” is the guy from god’s not dead
I don’t think this would be a controversial take lol
Tbh I didn’t know that joss whedon did anything but marvel
Probably could’ve used better examples but the general point still stands imo

What total social alienation and hypercapitalist programming does to a mf
Are you saying he’s literally us?
he’s just like me frfr
