I had to move states over the summer, and subsequently had to transfer schools. My old school didn’t have a gifted program, but apparently something in my transcripts and teachers notes made the new school think I might be eligible. Thus they wanted to IQ test me.
I asked for details about the contents of the gifted program, and honestly it sounded like extra work— we have to do a ‘passion project’— and was set during lunch, in other words not beneficial at all.
Thus I asked if I can opt out, but they say it’s mandatory to take the test and enroll in the program if I scored high enough. This pissed me off, so I decided to fail on purpose. Not only that, I wanted to fail on purpose to avoid. At the same time, I didn’t want them to think I was stupid, so I wanted to get so low to the point it was obvious I was scoring badly in purpose. My logic was that if I got 30-40, it would be obvious I’d be faking it, because at that level I wouldn’t be even able to function in society.
My plan went perfectly, and I ended up getting a 40 exactly. The school deduced that I was doing it on purpose and sent me an angry email saying I shouldn’t make a mockery of the system.
I don’t think I’m in the wrong here. They wouldn’t be in this position unless they forced me to take the test, so really it’s on them.
NTA. They wanted to use you - prestige, grants, whatever was in their demented heads. You refused to be used.
