TOOMBUL DEMOLITION

Demolition complete
After 12 months of works, demolition is now complete. As you may have noticed, the site is now fully cleared, with all demolition materials and machinery removed. We would like to thank the local community for your patience and understanding while these works have taken place.
Temporary pocket park to be complete in March
As part of the ongoing landscaping activities, we are delivering a temporary green space on the southern edge of the site along Widdop Street. The pocket park will span 475sqm, featuring a central turfed area enclosed by shrubs, plants and trees. Public seating will create a welcoming space for the local community. We anticipate the temporary pocket park to be open by late-March, subject to weather and progress.

So, what’s next?
We’ve been working closely with authorities including Brisbane City Council over the past two years to agree the parameters for future development of the site, including items such as traffic, location and size of the bus interchange, open space, building envelopes- including retail - and the most important part of the puzzle, the flood solution. This has been a complex process that has taken time to get right and is a big milestone in the potential redevelopment of the site.
Now that we have Council support confirming what is permissible on the site, we are commencing discussions with a targeted group of potential partners, including capital and other delivery partners to support the future redevelopment. Given the scale and size of the site, along with the current challenging construction environment, we believe this will be the fastest pathway to bring life back to Toombul. We anticipate this process will take several months and will continue to keep the community updated.

The park is temporary??
That’s what they said. North Brisbane BUG users on the page I found this post at were suggesting it may have been required by BCC and/or done to create an “eyes on the street” effect to help prevent vandals from entering the site. There were also people suggesting they may just be hedging their bets, and there’s a good chance it could become permanent, but that they don’t want to commit to that as the designs are not finalised.
I suppose all parks are in extended temporary states of ‘not quite wild’.
Maybe the developer became very philosophical staying up late working one night.
