I have to admire the survival skills of this Prickly Pear. How did it get there. How is it still alive ?

I have a prickly pear that was ripped out of the ground with chains and a pickup truck. I dragged its mangled, sticky corpse across the road because those neighbors didn’t want it anymore. They feared it would be dangerous for their little ones.

The neighbors moved away years back, and the prickly pear is absolutely massive and thriving. Over 80 fruits harvested this year so far

    Prickly Pear

As of this post, I know what cactus I have. Found it absolutely mangled up, thrown out on the grass. I separated the best looking piece and put it in some soil.

Not a month later, it was already growing a new branch

We’re five months in, and a new shoot just appeared out of the ground.
