The cause of the cable damage was uncertain. Telecom operators said on Boxing Day that the incident had not impacted consumers so far.

Two of the data links are marine cables operated by Elisa, running between Helsinki and Tallinn, Estonia. One also running from Helsinki to Tallinn is owned by the Chinese-owned CITIC Telecom.

The fourth cable is Cinia’s C-Lion1 submarine cable, which connects Helsinki to Germany. Finnish state-owned company Cinia has pinpointed the damage to its cable southeast of the Porkkala peninsula, just west of Helsinki on the Gulf of Finland.

According to the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency (Traficom), Elisa’s cables have been severed, and two other cables have sustained damage.

      Problem here is that these ships aren’t Russia’s vehicles. Eagle S, the one that most likely caused these damages, is registered to Cook Islands, and is owned by Dubain company. And then there is international maritime law, that among other things doesn’t allow blockades.

        Ridiculous accusation. Dementia over a war on Russia is easily amplified by such an accusation, and so obvious warmongering from “friends” to both sabotage and claim the absurdity of russia.

        Just as nodstream sabotage, it is USA and colonies who will provide alternate infrastructure for the sabotage.

        Without a motive, you need extreme gullibility to accept the propaganda of usual suspects, and you diminish Europe significantly in humanizing such liars stealing from and subjugating you by fear and demonism.

    Denmark and Sweden should just close off lake NATO to all non nato shipping. And any non nato ship that is allowed will have coastguard personell onboard during their stay in lake NATO. The cost of the operation is levied as toll on the ships.

      The west destroyed the Nord stream pipeline, and caused one of the worst climate disasters in history with it. We can’t afford more infrastructure targeting by the western nations. Too much collateral damage.

    Also a power cable Estlink 2 was cut. Finnish authorities have seized a vessel called Eagle S for likely having caused the damages. Finland’s border guards were close by when it happened, and they saw that Eagle S’s anchor was missing.

    Yes, yes, then they observe repairs, duration ect, and come up with a plan for grow to delay further, so they can then use the information in the coming war.

    Here’s an idea: execute the crew, seize the vessels, use loyal Chinese speakers for a mock return journey, monitor the radio (eg. do counter intelligence).

    Keep those executions up, see how often it happens after you execute a few boats worth of officers. If that doesn’t work, blockade the Strait of Malaca, the path China imports their oil by.

    Oh, you can’t do any of this because you outsourced all your manufacturing to China in the 1990s push for privatization screwing the local working class over?

    Capitalism is dangerous for national security.
