Oh, no. Can’t confirm. Ever since I was 5, I have been viewed by people who don’t get to know me as scary looking. People generally run from me.

You’ve heard of resting bitch face? Well this is more like resting horror film serial killer face. And then people are forced to get to know me, and they’re like “…so, you seriously don’t murder entire villages, and burn the corpses and enslave the women and children?”

          And I’m like “…no?”

And they’re like “Oh…cause that’s what everyone is saying about you. That you’re some kind of village killing murderer like ghengis khan”.

And I say “…we live in Cleveland. Don’t you think if one man burned one of the top 10 American cities down by himself, it would be global news?”

And she said “It’s Cleveland. Nobody gives a shit about us”

And I say “You’re in Cleveland right now. Does the city looked burned and decayed to you???”

And she said “The east side does…”

And I say “Yeah, ok. Fair enough.”

Kind of hard when the popular kids decide to single you out and you become a pariah. There were a couple of groups I was on the periphery of but nobody ever backed me up when I was getting fucked with. I had 4 dudes I would consider to be friends but we didn’t really have common interests and lost 2 of them to a car accident halfway through. Fuck high school.

From a non-american’s perspective this question is just baffling.

Is high-school that bad of an experience for you guys? Where I come from that’s one of the best times in your life, when you get to hang out with friends and have little responsibility, etc.

About homelessness, that’s another crazy one. People need to have a home and need friends and human interaction. Sleeping in your car without ever interacting with anyone is not a way of life.

Others have also mentioned that prison without people is solitary confinement and that is known to literally drive people mad.

High school depends, if you’re bullied or don’t work well in that setting or feel under too much social pressure to do what’s cool then it’s borderline torture, otherwise sure it’s great

Primary schooling was one of the worse experiences in my life, and I was lucky enough to go to private schools with good educational programs. Other than incarceration, it is one of the only times in your life that you are legally detained somewhere against your will.

Furthermore, the things we choose to teach are so far removed from practical life skills that it all feels like a performance that is leading to a brick wall in the end. The fact that there is no standard class for budgeting, cooking, taxes, job hunting, and basic home repair in school really shows how much they actually care about your future success.

School in America is a time suck for kids so their parents can work longer.

I don’t get this argument for practicality of classes. There shouldn’t be any budgeting, taxes related classes. You know basic math, an one hour YouTube video should be enough. For more complicated taxing situations, you’ll hire an accountant anyway. Cooking can actually be nice to learn, but definitely not in primary school. Some high schools actually do have optional cooking courses. My school called it Home Science. For job hunting, most schools do career counseling towards the end of high school. And home repair etc. should be taught by a parental figure. Not everything can be done in school. School gives you the basic tools so that you can learn whatever you need to learn to make a living.

Idk man. Homelessness will kinda suck anyway, because you have no place to rest, usually struggle to get enough food etc. Bad weather will make things much worse. Solitary is considered to be one of the worst kinds of prison sentences, unless you’re like a target for others for some reason. And high school can go either way. Mine was great, but it can definitely suck for some. But without others, how exactly is it a school? Maybe in some extreme cases of bullying, it might be better, but I think for most the loneliness will be far worse.

Prison? …No. You’re just wrong. That’s bad no matter what.

So true. High school (and even elementary and middle school) was so bad from the bullying I’ve received, with the only “friends” using me to copy my homework.

While I’ve only been seldom-homeless, I feel like it was only bad because some people never grew out of the schoolyard mentality, but it still hurts not having anyone have my back, or having anyone to go to since running away from home at 16.

I just hope I never experience prison.

High-school with no people sounds similar to homeschooling. I’ve known a lot of homeschoolers. I haven’t seen a lot of positive outcomes from homeschooling.
