Rather unfortunate update to this article posted earlier:
A 66-year-old man has died in hospital following a house fire in Brisbane’s east.
The blaze broke out in Forbes Street, Hawthorne just after 8pm on Saturday night, destroying one house and damaging two more.
The man, Hugh Walker, was rescued by two neighbours who provided first aid before he was rushed to hospital, where he died on Sunday night.
Police say the fire is not being treated as suspicious but that the extent of the damage is hindering investigations.
A woman who was inside the home at the time, believed to be Mr Walker’s wife, “saw smoke coming from the back of the dishwasher,” police said.
“She then saw, through the window, flames coming from the back of the home,” Inspector Steve Newland said.
“Then, the male occupant went to investigate and found a fire at the rear of the property.”
The woman was able to escape with minor injuries.
This is the best summary I could come up with:

Inspector Newland described it as “a large and confronting scene”, saying the “male person was so critically injured”.
Fire investigators are continuing to scour the wreckage for evidence and police are preparing a report for the coroner.
