I have another account on lemmy.ml and can’t see any of the aussie.zone communities when I search for them, even if I provide a proper URL as outlined here.

Maybe this is a problem on their side or just a bug, but I thought I’d mention it here in case there’s an instance config issue here that can be fixed.

IMHO it would be nice if the communities here showed up on the biggest Lemmy instance to help aussies find their way here.

Edit: Looks like this took care of itself, likely just server congestion on the lemmy.ml side as others suggested. Thanks all!

Remote communities only show up once someone there has searched for them. It can take 10-30 seconds for that to happen once someone has searched, depending on server load at each end.

I’ve read the lemmy.ml is struggling to handle it’s currently level of traffic, perhaps that’s also causing issues federating with aussie.zone

I have the reverse issue, I have subscribed to [email protected] but this instance shows it as empty despite there being posts there.

I am assuming this is an overload of lemmy.ml, but this is all completely new to me.

lemmy.ml being overloaded is part of it. The other part is that currently when you first add a community to from a remote instance, not all posts are synced. As a rule, only posts going forward will be seen.

I’m hoping that at some point the devs add a feature to allow user activity to dynamically pull old posts from the home instance… but I don’t think it is a priority, if its on the list at all.

I was having trouble getting the melbourne community here to show on the other instance I signed up in. I tried putting the full !melbourne@aussiezone into the search bar, and into the URL with no success. It eventually worked when I put it into the search bar, and then changed the setting from community to all.

I think they can be a bit buggy the way the communities work together, and I think the connection can lag a bit before content shows up on some instances. Probably particularly bad at the moment with all the new people.

Is there a way to see all the posts on the https://aussie.zone/ community when I’m registered through another instance? I can see and find some individual communities but it would be nice to just be subbed to the whole instance and see everything

I don’t think so, but I’d like this feature too. I’d also like to be able to browse other servers that I choose, eg. extend the Subscribed/Local/All filter to allow us to add other instances. Then it would really feel like it doesn’t matter which instance you join in terms of the content.

I’m sure we’ll get a lot of new features in the coming weeks/months based on all the Reddit refugee feedback and extra dev hands.

Yeah I can’t figure out a way to do it so I’m assuming you can’t, would be much easier than having to individually find then subscribe to them all

I’m having the same issue no matter how I search. [email protected] for example. Hopefully the inter-instance community searching improves. It’s really the only issue I’ve had moving from Reddit.

I’m not sure if it made a difference, but I found searching through the web interface using syntax “[email protected]” worked, but it took a little while.
