My local Wincos had a self checkout, and only have 1 or 2 cashiers open. They used to have two security guards and three cashiers managing the self checkout, with a massive line of people all the way to the back. It was like that for two years.

Today, I visited and they took the whole thing down, while having 5 checkout lines open. No security guards.

Real pleasant experience.

I hope they don’t do that at all locations. My inner former grocery worker is confident I can check out faster than anyone. And some days I just don’t want the human interaction.

The one in Gresham still has self-check-out as of today. Of course, I had a full cart and managed to get in the very slowest line out of three (though they opened a fourth when it was too late for me to take advantage of it). One woman in front of me got one bag of everything they sold in the bulk foods section. She started pulling out dozens upon dozens of baggies and I knew I was fucked. Took nearly 30 minutes until it was my turn. What I want them to install somehow is a single queue system.

My major issue is that all the self checkouts have security up the wazoo because of how much theft occurs with self check out

Not at the three I go to out west. I’m guessing you’re east of the river?
