Well, played Roger Freedman
Roger Freedman, absolute lad
Actually Bulk Stress was moved to chapter 12 for no other reason than to make students buy a new edition.
I just checked, and this is the exact book on my shelf. 1600 pages.
Me too! What a brick that thing is!
I remember when I got it and was like “Well, guess I’m never taking this thing to campus”
Yeah I barely even looked at mine. I had to buy it in order to get access to the online site for assignments but otherwise I just used the lecture notes.
It’s a handy reference to have now though!
my SO just asked how induction stoves worked, and I went and whipped out that sucker, looked up induction. It was kind of fun to go there instead of the internet!
I’m cursed to have an education in radio electronics and to have no one ever ask me anything about how some radio technology (like induction stoves) works
How do induction stoves work?
It’s just not the same online :(
I read some of Henry Rollins’s writing recently, and this passage made me ache.
This was beautiful, thank you for sharing it. I did not have “Feeling less alone because an internet stranger shared a Henry Rollins quote on Lemmy” on my agenda this evening, but here we are.
That’s something that helped me cope with a lot of things: realising I am not alone. I’ve also made it a point of trying to share that same comfort with others. If you struggle to get up, not because you’re tired but because your brain refuses to comply, because Why bother? What even is the point of getting up?, know that someone somewhere is fighting that same struggle right now.
Someone else just won it (for today, at least), and picked themselves up, because doing something at all is better than letting defeatism and apathy paralyse you. You can do the same. You can muster the strength, and by that strength, may set an example for someone else. They don’t need to know you, just the thought that you exist, that you share their struggle, that you overcame it and they can too.Take hold of my hand
For you are no longer alone
Walk with me in Hell- Lamb of God, “Walk with me in hell”
It made the tofu cry too, because the physics.
Surprisingly wholesome 🥰
That may have been the author’s intent but that’s not really how I see it.
There are people in this comment thread talking about being required to buy this book in order to get access to required online assignments, which is a near universal scam the degree industry likes to pull.
Sahaj there is likely using flippant humor to express serious grievances with their education. Or their education scented debt accruing experience, as so many of them are. Rebekah apparently finds the tome most useful as a weight, so she was probably required to purchase the thing but it was of no use to her in her life.
I think these students should be issued a baseball bat and 30 seconds of “whatever happens, happens” with Mr. Freedman.
It’s unlikely that Mr Freedman and not some LinkedIn MBA in one of the publishing houses is the true cause of this dystopian racket.

The last movie that made me cry was The Lego Movie. I think there’s something wrong with me.
That movie slaps you in the face at the end in a pretty universally relatable way. No shame in that one.
Nothing wrong with crying in a movie. Moves are meant to make you feel things. If you cry, that’s one way to know it connected with you and made you feel.
the only time my gf ever saw me cry was on an episode of LOST 4 years ago
Not Penny’s boat?
no but close, it was The Constant, which is about 5 or 6 episodes after not pennys boat
The Constant was the best episode of the series.
hell yes, one of the best episodes of TV ever
Last one that made me cry was The Whale. I lost my father when I was a teenager and was taken by surprise by the profound effect that it had on me, two decades later.
Nothing wrong with you, based on your statement. As someone else said, at is (often) meant to provoke emotion. Emotion is a part of who we are and catching feels from unexpected things is a beautiful part of being human.
Robot Dreams 🥲
Project Hail Mary, Discworld 41 The Shephard’s Crown
A real physics textbook author would have known that it was the tofu applying a normal force on the book!
OK, but really - what was the last book that made you cry?
