I hope this is better than Eternal. I really didn’t care for the constant ammo shortages, reliance on weak spots, and required acrobatics of Eternal compared to Doom (2016).

Yeah in Eternal you really have to use your entire arsenal to survive (at least on the highest none single life difficulty)

You can’t simply stick to a single gun and call it a day.

I wouldn’t mind it so much if it weren’t so bland. Advanced movement should be a skill that rewards you with extra options, but what we got was paths to the next arena littered with basic obstacles.

Ammo is basically infinite in Eternal. Just chainsaw a zombie and out comes ammo. By the time you’re out of ammo next time you probably already got a chainsaw refill.

Weak spots are suggestions and can be ignored for the most part. Most enemies don’t even have weak spots.

      Can’t argue with acrobatics.

I don’t want to chainsaw enemies for ammo, you never had to do that before. I also can argue with acrobatics; I feel it ruins the flow of Doom. I want no reloads and a big ass pool of ammo, should I be able to scrounge up said ammo, just like every other Doom. Even Doom 3 was better in this aspect, I didn’t feel forced to switch weapons every 15 seconds because I’m running out of ammo. The max ammo carry limitations and acrobatics really put me off. Doom (2016) was awesome, the additions did not improve it IMO. I understand this might be an unpopular opinion, but I’m fine with that. It just felt like a lot was forced. You had to switch weapons because ammo carry was limited. You had to do platforming because that’s the only way to traverse in many areas.

I didn’t enjoy Doom 2016 as much because once you get the super shotgun and ballista, there’s few reasons to use any other weapon in the game. No need to experiment with weaker weapons when super shotgun gets the job done. Heck, even the starter pistol is obsolete after the first few levels already.

In Eternal the game encourages you to experiment with all your weapons. The starter shotgun is still a good choice even when super shotgun is in your arsenal. And with constant ammo refill the combat can also be much longer with way more enemies (which they especially make use of in horde mode). In Doom 2016 you could technically run out of ammo completely.

To be pedantic, there was no ballista in 2016. I think you’re referring to the gauss cannon, which was awesome and I was dissapointed they replaced it. But agreed, it was overpowered. Still a dope gun though I missed it in eternal.

“I don’t like it because it’s not like the original”

It’s a different game, with different mechanics.

By that logic, Metal Gear Rising is a very bad stealth game.

I didn’t say “Eternal is a bad game”, I said “I don’t like it”. Don’t conflate the two. It’s just my feelings towards the game, I realize many others like it. I don’t care for the changes they made.

For what it’s worth, I totally get you.

Fallout 4 is a bad Fallout game. However, that doesn’t make it a bad game.

It would be silly for me to say I don’t like it on the grounds that it’s a bad Fallout game.

I simply don’t like Fallout 4, whether it’s part of the franchise or not.

That’s what made eternal amazing. Eternal on nightmare difficulty is the most fun I’ve ever had in a single player game.

Looks cool, the part where you were flying looked pretty goofy, lol.

It’s a shame that Mike Gordon likely won’t return.

Mick Gordon did the Doom soundtrack. Mike Gordon is the bassist for Phish, but that would be a funny combination.

I’m surprised they confirmed the PS5 in the trailer. Usually if a console is hosting the reveal trailer, they keep that ambiguous, but just won’t put exclusive.

Also, that would have been a huge deal about a year ago when everyone assumed these unrevealed games would be xbox exclusive.

Eternal is one of my favorite games of all time, and it has a massive leg up on this game. Firstly, it seemed like a complete surprise when it was announced. The gap between DOOM 3 and Eternal was like 16 years. It’s been 5 years since Eternal was announced, and 3 since it was released; I’m convinced passion projects are not released on timelines that coincide with shareholder expectations. Not to say Dark Ages can’t be good, but the second big red flag about this game is that now it’s owned by Microsoft and that’s it’s own can of worms.
