Just for your information, but Russia hasn’t been part of the USSR for over 30 years now. Also, Putin’s Russia is extremely different to the USSR, in that it is now ruled by far-right religious fanatics. I don’t think that would fit well into the USSR.

No shit? Maybe you should tell that to “USSRboy”? Might want to inform Kreml too because they keep cosplaying as the USSR with their red stars everywhere and eg. reestablishing the Leningrad Military District – Leningrad hasn’t existed in 30 years either, it’s been St. Petersburg.

Also, Putin’s Russia is extremely different to the USSR, in that it is now ruled by far-right religious fanatics. I don’t think that would fit well into the USSR.

You have an extremely idealized picture of what the USSR was, which seems to be a common theme with people who didn’t either have to live in it (especially the non-Russian ones) or next to it. Russia was the one running the show, and nothing of substance has really changed about Russian political culture in hundreds of years – during the USSR their rhetoric was of course different, but the incredible brutality and complete disregard for the lives of non-Russians and even Russians was still there, as was the persecution of minorities

Oh yeah true, I forgot about that! Although frankly it seems like it’s just a part of Russia’s USSR cosplay, just one that’s been going on for longer, where the Leningrad Military District was just re-established this year

I’m from an Eastern European country that was USSR aligned and part of the Warsaw Pact. I don’t have an idealized image of the USSR, nor of the West. I just find it hilarious how people cling to anti USSR messages when there’s plenty of actual stuff to criticize about today’s Russia.

Then you really haven’t been paying attention if you think the modern Russia isn’t up to essentially the same bullshit that they were during USSR times, just packaged up in different rhetoric.

The reason why people even brought up USSR is because, newsflash, the dude’s nickname is USSRboy. Can you deduce why somebody would sarcastically say that they got what they bargained for when they got arrested? I’ll give you 3 guesses.

I’ve been paying lots of attention. I don’t need a westerner to tell me what to think about the place where I’m from. Based on your post history you’re Finnish. I don’t need your sense of superiority here. I know very well what I’m talking about, and you are entitled to disagree with that, but do not go on ad hominem attacks. If your points are so easy to understand and bring across, then do suit yourself and start going into the details already. Starting from my original point of criticism, do tell me how far-right religious lunatics would’ve fit into the USSR political class.

So jailing and murdering political dissidents, agressive imperialism, extensive propaganda that paints a completely distorted view of what the state is doing, having a small and rich ruling class, russification of minorities etc. are completely different from what was going on during the USSR? Religion is the only new part here, and even that is surface-level only as it always is.

In practice USSR was fascist since Stalin came to power. Argue all you want here, but the only difference was social hierarchy. On paper. As sold to common folk. In practice, since Stalin, a rigid hierarchy was established and enforced. It had a name, Nomenclature.

USSR was authoritarian - one guy run the show since Stalin.

Ultranationalist- soviet vs rest of the world. Argue till you are blue, but soviets its just a different name for the nation concept.

Centralized autocracy. People did not rule jack shit.

Militarism - they sure do love their parades.

      Forcible suppression of opposition.

Belief in natural social hierarchy. Nomenclature is one thing and the same as current day oligarchy. People were trained to uphold it.

Hell, equality in USSR was also worth jack shit. In the 90s russia opened archives. Guess what, georgian soviets were sent first to the meat grinder. Prime example Battle of Berlin.

And for fuck sake. USSR forced other countries into their system. Suppressed culture, enforce russian language. That is ultranationalism.

Also, hello. We as a group of people have a mortal enemy. That mortal enemy is ever present, weak, but always encroaching. Ever endangering us.

If I have to spell it out, it is a staple of fascism.

Just for your information, USSR in 80s ran operation Denver - a massive disinformation campaign to plant a belief that aids was created in USA laboratories. You, my pedigree chum, should go home and do your homework.
