I am planning to eventually build my own home server, and when I do I will hook it up via ethernet. But I do want to switch away from the generic FIOS router and use my own for more control over my data and security. Any recommendations?

I bought a Ubiquiti EdgeRouterX for about $20 second hand and it hasn’t skipped a beat. Gets full gigabit speeds for my internet, though be aware that the throughput across all ports is only 1GB so you wouldn’t want to use it as a switch as well as 1GB internet router
