In my case… after realizing that democracy just ushers in degeneracy of every kind, where ever it’s established, I’ve given up on democracy. Moving forward I will be focusing my energy in ushering in a more Godly form of government, one of which will civilize the savages amongst our citizens by any means necessary.
Ah, Y’all Qaeda and the Talibangelicals in charge. That’ll only set us back a century or two in rights and general intelligence. Tell me, which monuments will you destroy first? The Statue of Liberty? Burn the Library of Congress?
The US now, more than at any time I can remember, seems to be polarized into two groups who absolutely despise each other. Why not be honest and declare the experiment a failure? Split the country in two and go on with your lives.
We’re not conveniently geographically separated though, it’s more of a rural/urban divide and despite what a lot of people think the two areas actually rely on each other. Try growing corn in a city or educating competent medical/engineering workforce in a small town and you’ll run into logistical issues pretty quickly.
Conservatives would disagree. They will proudly produce their own doctors who are as skeptical of science and education as they are.
Also, despite being enemies, they will gladly sell their crops and other exports to the normal people. As long as we don’t have to live side by side, we can all get along just fine.
I think the only option that avoids impending long-term bloodshed would be separating into Cascadia (the west coast), New England (NY, NJ, CT, ME, RI, etc), and the U.S. (the rest). Colorado would be stuck in the U.S., and that would be a loss for the normal people, but this separation could result in many years of peace for everyone before the conservatives try to invade a normal nation. By that time, the normal nations will have adequate means to repel and crush the invading roaches.
When I said “I can remember” I was specifically referring to living memory for me (as a 40yo), not to ancient history going back to the civil war.
I have heard people talking about a potential looming second civil war. When I see Supreme Court justices openly taking sides in political debates I start to wonder what will be next.
They haven’t “given up” on democracy.
They’re lighting it on fire and dancing its grave.
“If conservatives become convinced that they cannot win democratically, they will not abandon conservatism. They will reject democracy,” - David Frum.

I’m glad you get to decide what degeneracy is. I wouldn’t want anybody else to have that power.

more than in 1861? I find that hard to believe.
and before you say you don’t remember then: no.

“ancient history” lol.
The last civil war widow only died a few years ago (Dec 16, 2020).
