We are also making changes to our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service (ToS). In this revised policy, we provide more detail about the data we collect and why, how we may use it, and how we may share/sell it. For anyone that created a Plex account before March 20, 2025, there is no change. At a later date we will ask for your consent to these additional uses.

Incredibly concerning. I’ve been using Plex for years due to its ease of use but I’ll definitely be spinning up a Jellyfin instance and seeing if I can get the same/similar functionality from it.

Because I know at least one person will comment about how great Jellyfin is; do you know whether there’s a WebOS client for Jellyfin?

      Incredibly concerning.

Maybe if you just ignore the entire highlighted paragraph directly after this, that you conveniently left out:

Personal media users: We do NOT, and will not, share or sell any information about your personal media or use of a personal media server, and, as we’ve consistently stated, we don’t even collect information about content or titles in your personal media library or what content is played from a personal server.

If you follow their provided link you can see exactly what the changes are:

      https://www.plex.tv/about/privacy-legal/#who-does-plex-share-personal-data-with

Basically - if you have your plex account set to PUBLIC then they can share your reviews and watch history etc, which is what you’re agreeing to when you make it public.

The fact is that they don’t share or sell any information about your personal media or use of personal media server, so what are you worried about? If you watch movies/tv shows that plex provide on their free service then they will likely sell/share that with marketing companies to target ads to you, which is expected.

Less “conveniently” and more “I ran out of time to finish the article”. I’m sorry that you seem to be invested in this but I’ll still check out alternatives. Don’t worry, my potential switching shouldn’t hurt Plex’s future IPO (are they public already? Or still to come?)

        Have a nice day.
