I think the statement “this system is consistent” is a practical statement that is unprovable in a sufficiently powerful consistent system.

Can you help me understand the tone of your text? To me it sounds kinda hostile as if what you said is some kind of gotcha.

Yep one should be grateful for every time one can relieve oneself without pain.

On that note if at the moment you are reading this dear reader and you can breathe comfortably: Think of all the times you couldn’t when you had a cold or similar and celebrate your health.

It’s very counter intuitive. As the other commenter suggested I was referring to Gödel and his incompleteness theorem.

Actually if the system you made up doesn’t work it would be possible to prove that it does inside that system as you can prove anything inside a system that doesn’t work.

That is why my comment is not entirely accurate it should actually be: Until you prove that if the system works you can’t prove that the system works.

Can you spot the difference in the logic here?

  • I’m actually quite interested in dress history. I’m an engineer at heart and clothing is fundamentally also an engineering problem (and design of course). It’s an area of engineering that was always dominated by women and you can sometimes see the novel approaches that brings.

For example historical corsets were actually quite comfortable when fitted right. One reason why is actually breast support. Predecessors to the modern Bra did exist but were not in fashion as a more compressed looking bust and later a shaped silhouette was in fashion.

Also it’s cool what tricks one can use to form the silhouette without extremely compressing the waist (which is how many modern people often think is the function of a corset).

I recommend Bernadettes channel on this topic: link
