  • I play Fire Emblem Heroes and Arknights.

Fire Emblem Heroes is Fire Emblem on your phone! It’s been going on for a long time and we also have an anniversary coming up so we should be getting some free stuff. Most heroes have made it into the game by now. As a free to play player, you should be able to save and get 2 top tier characters a month. PvP stuff is well into whale territory so I should warn against going for top ranks there, but it’s still worthwhile to do for the weekly rewards. PvE is pretty easy to do and is your other main way to get currency besides daily log ins. If you like Marth, Roy, Ike, Lucina, or the Three Houses lords then it’s a fun game to collect them and power them up to the max.

Arknights is a tower defense game. You have operators that act like your towers. There’s a bunch of different classes of operators that can help you in different situations. Also the operators are all anime cat girls or cat boys lol. Story is pretty good, albeit very slow and kinda depressing. It’s a visual novel. Gameplay is pretty fun. Some of the starter/lower ranked operators are pretty good to use late game. The global server anniversary is going on right now and you can get some free rolls and is a good time to jump in.

  • I’m currently playing Atelier Ryza 1. It’s a slice of life anime game with an alchemy gathering/crafting system being the draw. I decided to try it out to see if I’d like the other Atelier games/series. It’s okay. The story is pretty plain and very slow. So far I’ve had fun figuring out the alchemy system to synthesize and craft really powerful items and weapons and then steamroll the game.

Since the last thread, I’ve went on a nostalgia spree lol. One streamer that I watch is doing a huge SNES marathon and is gonna play every SNES game that was released in NA in order. So that inspired me to get into beat em ups and other boomer genres and relive some childhood genres. So I picked up River City Girls and Streets of Rage 4 and Double Dragon. River City Girls was great! Awesome gameplay and some catchy tunes.

I started the Metal Gear Solid collection and beat the MSX/NES games, Metal Gear 1 and 2. Uh, lets just say they were an experience lol. I don’t know how you’d figure out some of those puzzles going in blind. Kojima was cooking even back then. I plan on playing Metal Gear Solid 1, 2, and 3 later this year. Hopefully volume 2 of the collection comes out this year and has Metal Gear Solid 4 and Peace Walker.

I’m currently waiting for Like a Dragon 8 later this month. It’s gonna consume my life then by the time I finish it Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth should be out and I plan to 100% that too.

I’m looking forward to Unicorn Overlord and, unironically, the Princess Peach game lmao

  • Kingdom Hearts 2 Critical Mode is perfection and I haven’t played anything since then that scratches that same combat itch. You take more damage, but dish out a lot too. The Org XIII fights are amazing and you have to use everything in Sora’s toolkit to beat them. It’s not just a button masher like the regular difficulty is.

    • Disco Elysium 10/10 it’s art. Finally got around to playing it and it’s a masterpiece.
    • Pikmin 4 9/10. Oatchi is a little overpowered but I was addicted to the gameplay loop and dandori.
    • Street Fighter 6 9/10. Fighting games are my weakest genre of games and I’ve avoided learning them until now and I can say I’m more comfortable with them and now know the basics. So I loved that new experience. I main Cammy classic controls.
    • Armored Core 6 8.5/10. Really fun blowing up mechs and customizing your mech.
    • Judgment, Lost Judgment, Like a Dragon Gaiden all 8/10. Can’t get enough of the Yakuza universe.

  • New Vegas. Got to the rocket part/lab with the invisible creatures or something like 8-10 hours in, iirc. Didn’t really get the humor and wackiness of the Fallout universe, or at least the Bethesda/Obsidian Fallout universe. I expected a more serious and gritty tone or something. I didn’t really like the guns breaking down and how inaccurate they were either. Came back a couple years later and played Fallout 3 with a different mindset and really liked it. Still need to go back and play New Vegas again.

  • Games that I’ve recently played and completed are Armored Core 6, Like a Dragon Gaiden, and Pikmin 4. I’m currently doing a replay of Final Fantasy 7 Remake to prepare for FF7 Rebirth. I’m planning to play the Metal Gear Solid collection later this month.

Armored Core 6: 8.5/10 great game. I only beat it once and haven’t tried the NG+/NG++ stuff yet, but might come back to it when/if DLC comes out. Had a lot of fun blowing stuff up with missiles and grenade launchers lmao

Like a Dragon Gaiden: 8.5/10 another great game. Playing as definitely not the yakuza known as Kiryu and the return to beat em up action was fun. Nice short and sweet game to prepare you for Yakuza 8 coming out early next year. 100% the game and got the plat for it. The ending made me tear up a little it was so great and bittersweet.

Pikmin 4: 9/10 just amazing! Probably a top 3 game I’ve played this year! The gameplay loop was very addicting and gave me the “Just one more day” feeling. The space dog Oatchi is very cute and useful if not a little bit overpowered and reduces the challenge of the game a bit, but it was still a fun time using him. I really enjoyed the Dandori challenges and battles - splitting up your pikmin and grabbing all the treasures and defeating all the enemies under a time limit that requires all your micromanaging and logistic skills. It was excellent. oatchi-pog
