  • This is really interesting, thanks for sharing.

I knew about the girl who died and her mother’s campaign but didn’t realise how central it was to Khan’s push for this. I also didn’t know his personal problems with asthma and pollution, or his additional security needs.

I’ve seen a lot of these campaigners around. They rolled through Epsom Town centre a few weeks ago and funnily enough, their vans completely blocked the crossing I was trying to use with my 4 year old on a very busy street making it very unsafe.

They’ve caused lots of annoyance with their constant horns, driving up local traffic unnecessarily and megaphones. I hear more hate for Just Stop Oil but can frankly say, they’ve never caused me personally any problems at all so funny isn’t it…

  • This is brilliant timing. I read this sitting at the gate for a short hall flight. There was still a lot of time before the flight and they announced “can Anna something please come to the desk”, and about 40 people (I counted as had so much time still) stood up and rushed to queue up and then had to stand up for another 30 minutes until it actually started boarding…

It was a cheap airline so overhead space can be difficult but I really don’t get the people who rush to sit down in the tight horrible seats (designated seating btw) waiting for everyone else to sit.

We arrived and then the picture happened of course…

  • Do you physically have access to the router? If so, I would figure out the settings it uses that other people notice (wifi settings etc) and just hard reset it. Chances are they just use the basic settings provided anyway.

Is anybody else using the router or just you? If just you, I’d just do what you want to it and reset it when you leave.

  • I have a family car, road bike, ebike and escooter. I really like my escooter the most for traveling around by myself, especially so I can jump on a train or bus, or even get a taxi if needed BUT they are still illegal here so I got pulled over by the police (I wasn’t riding like an idiot so they let me off with a warning) and all the trains and buses have banned them so it’s now useless. They never made them legal so we only have dangerous cheap ones. We could have legalised them like we did with ebikes and would have tackled this problem but only young or poor people use them so no chance. I love my ebike too but prefer the e scooter unless I’m going shopping or much longer trips without getting public transport. My road bike is for cycling trips in nice weather.

  • Absolutely agreed. I think the ability of the person, their morals and their impact are important but long term consequences have to play a major role.

Trusses’ impacts were immediate and large but have mostly receded. She wasn’t around long enough to do any real damage and she’s still out there garnering support from the same crazy fuckheads in the first place so no real changes there. They’ll just put up someone else instead.

Johnson was by far the worst individual but the damage was relatively small because of how incompetent he was and in fact, he highlighted a lot of issues that will hopefully change for the better now. If another evil politician turns up and makes use of those but is actually competent, they’ll go number one with Bojo number 2. Anybody would’ve struggled with covid and although he made it worse, I think other institutions lessened the impact somewhat.

Blair has the Iraq war, impact on Middle East and the start of the British fall in international relations, which probably puts him pretty high but I think some of the other stuff (e.g. making the BoE independent) probably does just enough to and him.

Brown was in power for too little of a time really but was instrumental in Blair’s got so takes some of that heat.

A lot of the country would argue Thatcher should be up there. Her policies continue to have much support in the Tories and some parts of other parties. Definitely a contender.

Brexit has had the worst impacts on every part of our lives and will continue to do so for quite some time. It’s also messed up NI, Ireland and the EU itself has suffered from it too. Cameron caused it and then jumped ship because he couldn’t help or wasn’t willing to, and either way is pretty bad. He has my vote for sure. No other single politic move has caused such a large negative impact.

  • I am really coming around to the fact that mopeds should be more common. The trouble is, it feels dangerous until car/van/trucks reduce in number, which is a catch-22.

I am thinking of getting one for my commute as just started a new job where it is possible to go on public transport but takes twice as long and lots of changes. Its just awkward placement really rather than the lack of transport, as have to criss cross. It does blow my mind how everyone is driving around tanks just for one person to travel (as cars have gotten noticeably bigger), it just doesn’t make sense!

  • I am very hesitant to use them after finding bitwarden (self hosted vaultwarden) so much better than keepass and past experience does say anything new released by proton will take a while to be full featured 😀 .

I understand your pain though. I setup my wife with it but can’t convince her to actually use it, despite her getting regularly frustrated with forgetting passwords… I keep saying to people it is so much better than not having one as it fills it automatically and is much more secure but for some reason, people think I’m the crazy nut for using one.

  • I’m hard to buy for as I just get what I need during the year when I need/want it and not really fussed about unnecessary crap so everybody just buys me rum, it’s great! Means I don’t have to buy any myself for a few months and they sometimes get me nicer or more interesting stuff than I’d buy myself. My wife often gets me a rum advent calendar which is great to find new rums!
