I started with vi on Solaris so Vim was a damn luxury to use. Not having to use a mouse or a GUI in server environment is a must. Even with all the cool editors out there now I still find myself using it even in X11 environments. Mastering it is a real achievement that you can be proud of because it’s never not worth your time.

Apt and pacman. I prefer pacman but apt is just ingrained in my synapses and, like vi, I just use it without thinking most of the time.

Even using Tor, the site load-times seem a lot snappier. Exciting times.

Thanks for making this post. It really helped me get a good overview of things. I hope it develops with a more glass half full attitude than the “I’m sorry I can’t do that Dave” attitude that Reddit has adopted.
