Actually no. Netanyahu may be unpopular but he’s been able to avoid elections for a year now.
And Hamas cannot be stopped militarily; killing all these civilians only makes more people support the group. What WOULD cause Hamas to lose support would be to empower moderates, but Netanyahu has spent the last 17 years undermining them and deligitimizing them, even arming Hamas so Palestinians would fight one another. Smotrich yesterday announcing he’s withholding Palestinian tax money to the PA only makes the PA look even weaker since even moderates are unacceptable to the Israeli government and will suffer under Israeli rule despite cooperating with them.
Reddit was in a frenzy over the claim on October 7 itself. The major basis behind it was a video of an Israeli prisoner with what appeared to be blood on the back of her pants. The major worldnews sub banned anyone who questioned the claim. Weeks later it turned out that the blood on her bottom was because she had cut her ankle and was sitting or kneeling in the back of the truck and got it on her pants, not that she had been raped like many assumed.
Are you trying to say that whoever puts military bases near civilians is willfully endangering civilians?
Yes according to Israeli logic based on what they say about Palestinians and Lebanese. Their behavior is hypocritical.
I think considerations about threat of attack come into play, and how great that risk is.
Hamas, Hizbullah, and Iran have all directly targeted these military installations, some in cities, and Israeli PR hollowly complains about how civilians are put in peril.
Talk about cherry picking an opinion piece. Of course you’d promote someone who says what you want to hear and ignore the many many Palestinian op-Ed’s who don’t.
I love any Palestinian who supports peace but this guy made some blatant historical errors. In 2007, Fatah engaged in a coup against the PA since they couldn’t accept the election result. Israel publicly supported the coup, even with the prime minister publicly urging the Knesset to send weapons to Fatah so they could complete the coup. The coup attempt failed, which is why Hamas controlled Gaza while Fatah controlled West Bank. Netanyahu publicly supported Hamas through this with money, which is why the Israel press has been tearing into him for the last 6 months.
If you want a more mainstream Palestinian voice, I’d recommend Khaled Elgindy who has previously worked with the White House on negotiations. Not this guy who whitewashes Israeli crimes in hopes he could get picked to help run the occupation.
You’re missing the point completely, the Israeli military knowingly puts their bases in civilian areas knowing they are targets by enemy forces, putting the surrounding civilians at risk.
Israel isn’t overthrowing Hamas though. They’re actually empowering them by Netanyahu spending the last 17 years sidelining Palestinian moderates. Abbas offered to work with Netanyahu to actively fight Hamas but was turned down, because Netanyahu refused to work with Palestinians of any stripe.
Netanyahu has said repeatedly since November that even if all hostages are released he will not stop the war. He turned down multiple ceasefire deals where all the hostages would be returned in exchange for aid. Your comment is simply incorrect.
Well we could have independent journalists but Israel won’t allow any in and shoots them often.
It’s up to 274 dead now.
Realistically Likud and the Jewish Power Party needs to be neutered politically. Why is nobody talking about how Israel has convicted terrorists in its cabinet while at the same time complaining that Palestinians should have popular political parties banned?
Israel detains many Palestinians including hundreds of minors without charge, on bases right in the middle of civilian towns. Heck, IDF headquarters is right in the middle of a civilian neighborhood in Tel Aviv. Does that mean Tel Aviv is a legitimate military target?
Hamas doesn’t exactly pick the most civilian-free areas to set up their base of operations either.
IDF headquarters is in the center of a civilian area in Tel Aviv. By Israeli logic, is firing missiles at Tel Aviv a legitimate military objective? Netanyahu’s bunker is in a crowded civilian area too, why is he using human shields?
The issue here is that the IDF believes Israeli lives are FAR more important than Palestinian lives. How much? They actually have calculated how many Palestinian civilian deaths are acceptable to protect one Israeli soldier.
Netanyahu said since November that even if all hostages were released he was going to invade anyway and not stop the war.
There were many many reports of rapes and sexual abuse of detainees going back before the second intifada but increased in number since then. The IDF always brushed off press questions saying they’re lying but they’ll “investigate.”
A libel case is different.
The problem is Trump could claim “oops I forgot that I agreed with the crowd in 2016” and that is different than intentionally lying. That’s why journalists have to split hairs here; George Santos can be called a liar but saying Trump lied this time is harder. It opens a can of worms; when Biden inevitably gets a detail wrong in another story of his should they call him a liar?
There’s more recent videos of him praising Galaxy Quest but not any video of that quote that I’m aware of.
”I had originally not wanted to see [Galaxy Quest] because I heard that it was making fun of Star Trek and then Jonathan Frakes rang me up and said ‘You must not miss this movie! See it on a Saturday night in a full theatre.’ And I did and of course I found it was brilliant. Brilliant.
”No one laughed louder or longer in the cinema than I did, but the idea that the ship was saved and all of our heroes in that movie were saved simply by the fact that there were fans who did understand the scientific principles on which the ship worked was absolutely wonderful. And it was both funny and also touching in that it paid tribute to the dedication of these fans.”
Are you expecting a joke to actually discuss both sides of a topic?
