  • I understand why unions push seniority based hiring to combat nepotism in hiring practices but goddamn is it frustrating having to learn a new job every year because someone more senior than me applied for my contract. Especially when it forces me to engage with the soul crushing act of “networking” because there’s no guarantee of me getting another contract unless someone hires my antisocial ass. I can see why new hires can get a bad taste for unions if they’re not engaged with the politics of contract negotiations and their only exposure is this

  • It’s crazy how much more difficult it is to just survive now in Western society. Like talking to my older co-workers or people my parents’ age, they can all talk about how the years they spent dicking around, travelling or pursuing some passion while working part time on the side. Meanwhile I work full time at the same age they were, and I can barely afford to do anything besides pay my rent and buy groceries. Like there’s no back up anymore, if you can’t afford rent one month you’re evicted and finding a new place is even more expensive.

Now these are all cis white people I’m talking to so they already had it easy compared to the experience of other people at the time

  • Okay we’re in a thread talking about how Native Hawaiians feel about the American government. I actually want to know why you are arguing this point and what you feel it accomplishes, in genuine good faith. Like are you Native Hawaiian, do you like in Hawaii, do you just like the idea of being able to visit Hawaii without a passport, or is there some other reason?

For me, I’m arguing this because I believe Indigenous people around the world have a right to self governance and freedom from colonial occupiers. So what’s your reason?
