Not sure specifically what unit your talking about, but the ductless units are typically fixed outside of the house, not usually on the window itself. And then a hole is drilled through the house to provide the cooling/heating to the headless unit inside the room. This also eliminates the need to insulate like crazy around a window unit like you’re talking about.

With the amount of admin bloat in most government and education sectors I honestly wouldn’t even be surprised at this point if that was someones legit title.

It sounded like they also had content on platforms like TikTok that they had problems with. Like being dressed as a “schoolgirl” in tiktok videos.

She essentially was fetishizing her job online for money. I can definitely see that getting into some areas that would result in violating some sort of employment policy they agreed to.

Yeah, if fines work like a “cost of doing business” that they just account for on their budget sheets then it’s really just pointless. It’s also hilarious when I see a government fine a company for doing something wrong, but the customers that got screwed over get none of the money AND the fine amount is not as much as the profit they gained off doing the action. It’s like a double “fuck you” to the customer who got screwed over.

Yeah, cutting corners to make himself more money, and then we the taxpayers have to foot the bill for it. It’s the reason we have things like “sin taxes”. We allow people to make risky decisions because it ends up costing us more in things like medical expenses to treat their self imposed aliaments. In cases of gross negligence like this you should be on the hook for the costs to the emergency services.

Yeah I’ve got a person I know that runs a small iptv service. Mainly used for live things like sports. I more got it setup for my parents place because it’s just easier for them to use that then to try to use things like reddit to find streams of each sporting game they want to watch.

It can also be good for when you just want to put something random on in the background. I personally barely use it as I don’t really watch sports and I hate watching ads. So for my content it mostly comes from sonarr/radarr.

Well a lot of the media across Canada is owned by Bell, Rogers, or Shaw. With their current CRTC “connections” and lobbying I’d say they have a lot of power to get their way on these deals. I wouldn’t be surprised hearing the CBC not as in favour since they don’t need to rely on these sorts of funding sources that these other corporations may be hoping to secure.

Isn’t Vice going out of business and Buzzfeed dying? Both of them got into the clickbaiting culture war topics and both seemed to fail because of it. I still think real journalism is the way to go but it seems to be falling apart and I don’t think this will fix it.

This feels more like a lobbying/corruption filled bill more than anything. The intention doesn’t seem to be really to fix things, but more just to make the big corps more money.

Wouldn’t Facebook having to pay news agencies for clicks to their articles result in the problem of low quality clickbait style articles/headlines worse? I get the point you’re trying to make, but I think the way the government is going about things is a bit silly and doesn’t seem apt to make things better. To me it seems like the government fell prey to the lobbying efforts of Bell/Rogers/Telus trying to squeeze more $$$.

I’d argue most major news networks are propaganda parading itself as news. CBC may be more of an exception since they have government funding, though they do still have advertisers and to some degree lose some element of control because of that.

Things like cellphones and internet are a big proponent of most Canadians lives, and the antics that Bell and Rogers gets up to are rarely reported on, or if they are reported on, there is a lot of omissions. It’s no surprise why considering Bell and Rogers own a lot of the news networks.

I’d say a good chunk of Canadian and American news is pretty heavily controlled by mega corporations.

They praised some random logistics active serving member at the home opener CFL argos game and it felt pretty awkward how they did it. It just felt so forced. Really I just want these things to stick to the sports. I find that they often do these nights because they just don’t know what the hell to do while there are 100 intermissions for “ad breaks”.

I use Coextro. Just some small company operating out of Mississauga. I wouldn’t call them amazing, but they try their best. At the end of the day they are really still at the mercy of Bell or Rogers (depending on if you go dsl or cable). They are smaller so they are likely a bit safer for now from being consumed by the duopoly.

It’s sad when I could likely get faster and more reliable internet connected to a satellite than over cables hooked directly to my house. You’d think living in a more major city in a sprawling suburban residential area would get you reasonably reliable internet, but not even that is the case. Is it too much to ask CRTC to allow some competition?!?!

It sucks because my community is still stuck on 100Mbps per second as the max over DSL unless we get cable internet. We have been back and forth between both DSL and cable and find we have issues on both regardless of the provider, router, or modem. At this point I feel like the lines to our neighbourhood/house are just so old and flakey and struggle to handle peak internet usage times. It just feels ridiculous though because there is fibre lines at the end of the street as those lines provide fibre access to the new communities.

These companies have no incentive to upgrade/maintain things beyond their initial installations because they control the market. Third party providers can only do so much when things don’t work. All they can do is essentially put in a ticket with Bell or Rogers and tell them to fix it. And Bell or Rogers uses their contracted workers to say “yeah looks fine to me” and calls it a day.

I’m getting quite sick of the CRTC not doing anything and not stepping in as much as they should be. I also don’t like that I see things like the Bell chairman in private undisclosed meetings with the CRTC. Overall it just seems like corruption runs deep. I guess I’m not really surprised anymore.
