I don’t know. How about if it crashes or you report a problem then you get the option to send that data along with it. That’s the model a lot of systems use.

I don’t understand why it has to be a thing that happens silently in the background and they just expect you to accept it, or more likely just not realise it’s turned on or what it does.

I mean it’s right there in the installer. You’ve got the option. If you’re installing beta software and not even bothering to read the options presented to you on the installer and what you’re agreeing to then that’s entirely on you.

I mean this intel thing apparently you have to explicitly choose custom install and then find it and uncheck the box if you don’t want it.

You know this thing records what “categories of websites” you visit, right? You really think it’s reasonable for intel to know your browsing habits (or how much porn you look at) because you installed a graphics card driver without scrutinising every single installer option?

It’s a beta. It’s about collecting telemetry. That’s literally what a beta is for.

GPU drivers affect everything that’s using the GPU, including browsing the web. Porn sites are actually probably a pretty good tester for graphics drivers since the websites are streaming video and displaying ads etc all over the place. Imagine if they released gpu drivers that pornhub, for example, didn’t work with!
