On August 17, the beloved Western experience Red Dead Redemption and its horror companion Undead Nightmare arrive together for the first time on the Nintendo Switch and modern PlayStation systems.
Can the switch even handle the graphics? I guess somehow It can.
The undocked Switch is in the same ballpark for raw power as the 360 and PS3, so as long as they’ve managed to sufficiently unfuck the game’s nightmare spaghetti code, should be just fine.
This is Rockstar to be fair
The Switch is faster than a PS3/360, which the original game ran on.
To summarize, unoptimized PS3 < 360 < optimized PS3 < WiiU (slightly slower cpu then previous, faster GPU) < Switch in terms of devices with a roughly similar performamce level.
The Switch has pretty underwhelming specs but this is a PS2 game isn’t it?
PS3*
360/PS3. Switch will struggle for sure. It’ll probably be 30fps @720p with either slightly lower res or unstable framerate.
I hate playing games on the switch. Tbh I dislike the switch. Whenever games only come out for the switch it bums me out. Could be playing the game on PC with modern tech but nah. Locked to an underwhelming tablet with controllers
My brother in christ, do us all a favor and look into switch emulation already so we don’t ever have to see such an asinine comment again. If your computer is good enough you can run switch games at a wayyyyy better performance than the switch itself can.
Just emulate it if you want to play switch games “on PC with modern tech.” For legal reasons I’d advocate getting a modded switch and ripping your own games if you go that route but I was playing Tears of the Kingdom in 1440p ultra wide 60fps day 1.
Just buy a Steam Deck?
Never played this one, only the second. I especially liked the slow and deliberate style and pacing of RDR 2, something a lot of people found off putting. Is this game similar? I guess my question is: If I liked the gameplay of the second game will I enjoy the first?
Both are equally stellar. 1 plays like a typical spaghetti western while 2 plays like a western drama of sorts, so you’ll find the tone a bit off-putting at first and the story doesn’t carry a lot of the heft that 2 did. Mechanics such as Honor play almost no role in the story so it’s a more linear experience, too.
When it comes to gameplay, you’ll most definitely enjoy 1. I’d say the first game plays a bit better; the controls are more streamlined, and I found myself making a lot of mistakes when it came to 2’s weird interaction menus and such, so it’s a nice change of pace. Aspects such as hunting and side stories are naturally not as fleshed out, but that’s up to personal preference. They’re still pretty good and engaging.
If you ever wanted to pick up RDR1, now’s a great time. We long heard stories of how hellish the development of the game was, so it being available on modern systems is a great achievement. We have yet to see how it would perform on the Switch however.
I would say that the gameplay is a more simplified version of red dead 2. The base mechanics are mostly the same but red dead 2 adds more depth. In some ways I prefer the gameplay in red dead 1 as it’s simple to understand health, stamina, and dead eye work without having to bother with “cores” (there are no cores in red dead 1)
Eating and medicine is simply for restoring health, deadeye is refilled by getting head shots. No gun maintenance or inventory management needed in the first game.
The story is a bit more focused in the first game as well instead of strung out into chapters.
The funny thing is that chronologically RDR 1 is set after RDR 2.
That being said, you’ll probably enjoy this one too.
It’s coming to Switch, but not PC? God, fuck rockstar.
Silver lining is we can play it with cemu!
RDR1 has already been playable on Xenia for quite some time. (And the emulator your thinking of is Yuzu/Ryujinx, Cemu is a wiiu emulator)
Oh man… Choosing games is really becoming tough lately! Busy with TOTK after I am done I plan on buying Hogwarts Legacy assuming it still launches on time. Also want to play Witcher 3 - been toying with this in my mind for some time now. Oh well maybe I’ll just buy all three…
Can’t wait for the launch price be 60 euro and after two years it will be 49,99.
Instant buy, been waiting to revisit this game. Surprised it even runs in Switch
Nice. I love to see so many 360/PS3 era games come to switch. Hope for Oblivion or FO3 to get released
While I’m excited, I will definitely wait for reviews. Rockstar is not the most trusted company.
