They use blanks. During the Iraq war there was a shortage of 5.7x28mm blanks. It’s possible they switched some blank production lines over to make live rounds for the war, or maybe the military needed more blanks to cover increased training needs.

If I recall, the ammo ended up in short supply worldwide and hence prohibitively expensive.

Just started season 1 again and I am yearning. Don’t know when they switch to p90 but I hope it’s in season 2.
I read somewhere that it was around season 4. But it’s been a long time since I saw the show.
