This argument might make sense at face value but falls apart fast if you actually think about it.

So let’s assume the nose had meaning. Clearly the hats do. How about one floating eye versus two attached eyes? They’re both without sclera, clearly this has meaning. The length of the legs? The press guy only has four fingers, what’s the symbolism there?

You could always take the highly controversial step of looking up the subject before talking about it. I guess the artist is using antisemitic stereotypes for Dumbledore and Snape too. Snape sure has a monster schnozz.

But you’re online, right? Who would use the internet to verify information when you can just make some shit up?

I looked at his Instagram before I left my comment (that agreed with you) and there’s a drawing of a middle eastern guy with a nose way closer to the stereotype on there, too.

I see what you’re talking about. He draws in several different styles, sometimes depicting middle eastern people with long noses, bulbous noses, small noses, and even no noses at all. Same with European characters. I don’t see a definite pattern relating to the content or those depicted but I haven’t made a study out of it. For what it’s worth, the cartoonist is Egyptian.

I’m still hesitant to claim this cartoon was bigotry, intentional or otherwise. It’s a pretty weighty claim and one I don’t think should be made as lightly as with the previous commenter. I also suspect they meant prejudice or simply antisemitism as it’s difficult to determine bigotry from one example.

I’m not just hesitant to claim it’s bigotry - I’m outright refusing to without further evidence for all the reasons you outlined. There’s nothing bigoted about the way the soldier is drawn because that’s not even accurate to the stereotype at all

Make some shit up? It’s pink and unusually elongated with respect to the other characters. I’m not going to scour through the artist’s works to prove that it might be an accidental embellishment. If you make a comic that is not part of a series, it should be self contained.

All the other details you pointed out are just strawman bullshit.

What’s happening to Palestinians is genocide. It’s fucked beyond belief. This went from a poignant comic to something I don’t want to be associated with.

Scour? I think it’s pretty reasonable to take 30-60 seconds to verify before claiming someone or something is bigoted. The fact you are fine with negatively labeling someone or something without taking less time than it takes to take a dump to see if you might be wrong first speaks volumes.

P.s. You should look up what a strawman is.

Edit: given you find scouring the internet for information to be such an onerous task, I found a link for you : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Straw_man

Four fingers, one floating eye, sclara? All straw-men that you ‘defeated’ to prove me wrong. I don’t comment on bigotry lightly. I know antisemitism is thrown around as much as comparisons to hitler in hyperbole these days.

If someone has to look at your body of work to understand if you’re racist or not, you fucked up.

Have you heard of a saying? “Those looking for something will find it even where none exists.”

              Yes, it’s often true.

I will give you the author of the cartoon may not be racist. I can’t say. This particular embellishment was a mistake on their part. It watered down the potency of the comic for some and that makes it an oversight at best.
