How is everyone enjoying their Pixel 8 experience?

Around the black Friday sales time, I tentatively switched from a Pixel 6 pro to an 8 pro. I was pretty nervous about the switch as my experience with the 6 pro was good but not great (specifically the battery life) and I didn’t want the same to happen with the 8 pro. However, a few months on and I can say that my experience has been outstanding.

I never have to worry about battery life; the screen is bright and amazing; the face unlock is reliable and fast; and, it just feels like a more premium build compared to my 6 pro.

If you made the switch, what’s your experience been like?

(Edit: P.S. I know I asked this question at launch in this sub but I love hearing long-term reviews 😅)

It’s been good. Battery life is great. The screen is good. The face unlock is an equivalent experience to my Pixel 4XL.

My only complaint is a weird one. I feel like the colour temperature on the cameras is a little cooler than my P4XL. Pictures under the same lighting seem a little too blue.

I really appreciate getting more screen real estate from the hole punch. And I like that the bezels are symmetric (or close enough that I can’t tell the difference).

Yeah that was something that I also noticed too with the colour temperature. However, I tend to make my photos cooler. So for me it’s something that I don’t mind, but there have definitely been situations where it’s even too cool for me, so I can understand that’s frustration.

I wish there was a setting where I could tweak it. I guess I’ll just have to use filters on individual photos.

My experience moving from the 6 pro to the 8 pro wasn’t some sort of magical fantastical generational leap, however it addressed basically every single gripe I had with the 6 pro. The battery is MUCH better. The screen is much better, it’s smoother, and the camera is still fantastic. The screen is also flat, not curved, so screen protectors fit much better. I just wish we still had a hardware fingerprint reader like before the 6 pro. That being said, the camera supporting face unlock is fantastic for my home and work apps.

Absolutely solid upgrade and I would do it again if I had the chance.

Pixel 8 Pro. Biggest issue is that my Internet goes to shit when I connect to WiFi. Not sure what the issue is, but I’ve got unlimited data so I don’t really care. I would prefer a smaller phone, but that doesn’t seem like an option these days.

Generally, I really like the phone. Some people complain of battery life issues, but the battery life has always been very nice for me, ending the day with plenty to spare.

The Tensor barely qualifies as a flagship SoC, but I’ve had this phone since release and I have never thought I could use more performance. Virtually everything is immediate. I don’t experience lag, even in games, though I don’t play Genshin. The whole OS is buttery smooth irrespective of how many background tasks I’m running.

The camera is the best I’ve ever used. It’s definitely the main selling point of the device in my opinion.

The only concrete problem I’ve had is cellular handoff sometimes doesn’t work. I find myself toggling airplane mode about once a week to forcibly restart the modem so it connects to the towers.

Thinking about bugs I’ve experienced on iPhone and on Samsung devices, I would say this phone is nearly perfect for my needs.

Couldn’t agree more tbh. Especially with the SoC. I understand the upside of a more powerful/efficient processor but this has rarely ever stuttered for me with my use case!

It’s great. Battery life is awesome, the rest is equivalent or better than the 6 Pro I had previously.

I made exactly the same switch and I feel underwhelmed. OTOH I never had a problem with the 6. The main difference I notice is that the facial recognition works well enough that I rarely need to use the fingerprint scanner. I also sometimes like the improved camera zoom.
