I started to hit up the op shops at Rockdale about once a month. There’s 4 of them within about 50 metres of each other.

It’s been a while since I visited those op shops, but I remember them being nice. Automatic door on Vinnies still broken and you have to slide it yourself?

Currently stuck at home with COVID again. I’d absolutely love to do something like visit those shops atm :P Actually the sinkhole might be an attraction too, but it’s probably too fenced off.

Yep you still gotta slide it. I never knew it was ever automatic. It looks pretty slick in Vinnie’s these days. It’s been a while since I’ve found any clothes though. Seems to be mostly fast fashion stuff or similar at exorbitant prices for an op shop. So I’m mostly just trawling while on an ‘adventure’.

          Hope you get better soon.

Yeah it’s been years since it worked. Those prices can be annoying, even books now seem to be much more expensive at opshops.

            Thanks mania.

Any other places you might suggesting adventuring?

Marrickville Road has four op shops in close proximity and if you catch the bus or walk up to the Cnr of Marrickville and New Canterbury Roads there’s another there.

Gladesville has a couple on or just off Victoria Road. The clothing there is a bit more ‘up market’.

Rozelle has a few on Darling St, either side of Vic Rd (not including the ‘upturned’ or ‘recycled’ shop which I don’t venture into but my partner does).

Tempe has the big warehouse next door to TGG and close to IKEA. Lots of furniture at this one but don’t expect them to hold anything for you. If you’re looking to take anything home bring a car. There use to be another big warehouse out at Croydon or Concord off Parra Rd but I think it closed down.

I know Manly has a few and then if you head over to Balgowlah there’s a couple more.

Basically I just pull up Google maps whenever I’m in a new place and search ‘op shops near me’. If I’m looking to head for a spot I’ll look for clusters of shops on Google maps before doing so and choose a destination. Just make sure to check they’re open. I’ve been caught out a couple of times forgetting to do that.

Thanks mania. Something for me to look forward to once I’m out of the house :)

I’ve been to the Tempe one a lot, but I have not tried the Marrickville ones so they’re next.

                  A couple extra routes/spots I forgot.

Crown St Surry Hills to Oxford St Bondi Junction (top of Centennial Park) passing through Paddington. This is a longer journey you can walk or bus. Starting near Crown and Cleveland there’s a Vinnies. From here walk up the west side of Crown towards Oxford and you’ll eventually hit a Salvos. After this cross the Road and continue towards Oxford until you come across a small Noffs. Then head up to Oxford and turn right (east) to come across a couple more (I forget which). From here you can walk up a bit further on the same side of Oxford where there is one of those swap/swop shops or catch the bus up on the other side of the road up to the Chauvel. Walk along the north side of Oxford through Paddington and you’ll come across another couple of op-shops before you get to North West corner of Centennial. Walk or bus to the North East corner of the park and then continue a little bit along Oxford and there is one more shop here on the south side not far from the bus depot.

Randwick has a few shops close together up around the corner of Belmore and Alison.
