Bonded asbestos-contaminated mulch has been confirmed to be present in the ACT, having been distributed to customers by 12 businesses.

Anyone who purchased ‘cottage mulch’ products between March 1, 2023 and February 19, 2024 is urged not to distribute or move it, and to contact WorkSafe.

WorkSafe says further testing of mulch from ACT suppliers is underway to establish the extent of the contamination, and if any further action is required.

NOW we’ll see action. It’s only when the politicians in Canberra are potentially affected that anything gets done. Even then, the remedial work will only get rolled out for Canberra and any rich areas in Sydney.

Nothing like spreading the fun around, so the asbestos mulch hunt makes its way down here.

I do feel though that given the prevalence of asbestos and how easy it would be for some to enter the greenwaste stream then one would find asbestos present in mulch all around the country if one were to look hard enough.
