Hello!
I am the lead for the community team, and unfortunately the only active moderator for this community went a bit bonkers and removed a bunch of posts and changed the name and stuff. We are now trying to rebuild this community, and have appointed two new mods Stamets and JonsJava, who will together try to get this community back on track.
If you have any suggestions or questions, feel free to put them down in the comments here, and we’ll get back to you as soon as we read them.
Thank you for being here (:
That was certainly entertaining to watch :D
I guess my ideal gaming community would be a good balance of Srs Gaming Industry News and silly memes/idle chatter, without veering too hard in either direction. /r/games and /r/gaming are neither of them much fun, precisely because of the split.
I vote to keep the leftwing propaganda as a regular feature, so long as it’s gaming-themed. It’d irritate the crap out of that one guy, while also helping ward off the whole toxic-gamer-community thing a bit, and give this place its own unique vibe.
That was fast lol. Thanks for taking quick action, I was about to shoot a message to the admins about it. That guy was acting out for no reason.
While we’re at it, can we allow meme posts again? Feels like [email protected] already has its place as the ‘serious’ gaming discussion.
Thanks!
Oh absolutely, this whole mess started I believe because Stamets dared to disagree with the active mod about meme posts being allowed. So since he’s now the mod, let the memes flow!
I wonder if this had something to do with it as well? Thank you guys for cleaning it up either way 🙏
Yeah… As said, I made a comment saying I disagreed with the memes being disallowed and almost immediately it was removed and I was banned. I noticed a few minutes later and sent it to a few people like “Dudes lost his mind.” Wasn’t long after that he just exploded. I mean it was hilariously stupid because we can reinstate all the posts with very little effort, and putting up a new banner or icon isn’t exactly heavy lifting either.
As for memes… yes. My whole comment said that I wasn’t sure of the difference between here and /c/games if memes weren’t allowed. As @[email protected] suggested, he doesn’t seem to have an issue with memes. I certainly don’t. @[email protected] I haven’t had a chance to have a good chat with but we will at some point today and we’ll figure out the rules and stuff but I suspect that they’re not going to have an issue with memes. Although I do not want to speak on their behalf and guarantee nothing, mind you.
Meme all the memes!
Interesting, I wondered why I’ve had messages from automod about removing old posts of mine, and why I’ve seen some recent ones I’ve contributed to suddenly disappearing.
Was this the new team or the previous mod who has done this?
Anyway, good luck and have fun with running the community. Hope to see more from you folks.
The previous mod, we’ve been trying to restore everything, sorry for the inconvenience!
No problem, it’s not your fault the previous mod did this. Thanks for the clarification and quick reply.
Why not make a separate gaming memes community?
I would say this is the separate meme community, !games is the more serious version.
The description of this community mentions gaming discussion and news here, and doesn’t mention anything about memes or being “less serious”.
Sounds like the community is being taken in a new direction than people signed up for.
I quickly wrote down that description a few seconds after noticing the rogue mod, so it shouldn’t be used as guide.
Is there any form of changelog for sidebars or community info?
How can I be sure rogue mods aren’t changing other community rules without notice?
I don’t think that exists no, but if you see any malicious behavior, feel free to message me or any other admin.
That link gets me nowhere. Where was it supposed to go?
Oh that’s not supposed to be a link, that’s the name of the community, here’s a link: https://lemmy.world/c/games
Hi there! Looks like you linked to a Lemmy community using a URL instead of its name, which doesn’t work well for people on different instances. Try fixing it like this: [email protected]
You are one of my favourite bots.
Thank you
Not a great idea to fracture a community that’s already small imo.
The alternative seems to be flooding out discussion and news with low effort meme reposts.
Is @[email protected] going to be the first Supermod on Lemmy? Never a good idea to make people too powerful.
He’ll be the new AwkwardTheTurtle in no time. Mark my words.
He who controls the memes, controls the fediverse
The communities he moderates combined would still be a very small subreddit on reddit.
And I can vouch for Stamets in the sense that I am 100% sure that he has no intentions of hogging communities.
Yes and I’m sure everyone thought Stalin wasn’t going to hog Eastern Europe. Look how that turned out!
Except that we can stop giving communities to him at any point. Google the slippery slope fallacy.
My guy, I have 6 meme communities under my belt. I’m not controlling anything serious. Also comparing me to Stalin is a bit insane considering the worst I could do is ban someone. Moreover, I actively look for others to work with and do not like being a moderator. I do it because no one else does but it’s stressful and I would very much rather just post shit.
I’ll be watching you. 🤨
