It’s basically a liberal fantasy where if you have the right all-knowing rulers in charge they can totally make a capitalist society where there is no poverty or homelessness and everyone can live a cozy middle class life. The cutie marks are primarily used as a metaphor for puberty, but carry with them the very unfortunate implication that whatever you’re good at as a teenager is what you’re going to be stuck doing for the rest of your life, so you better hope that fate gives you a “spreadsheet manager” mark and not a “back breaking labourer” one.
