There’s a transcript of a phone call when coalition soldiers started capturing St. Petersburg where a Russian army captain is trying to tell Nic II there’s just no guys left. Nic II is saying something like “just get more troops, we have a lot, right?” and the army guy is like “We don’t have anyone left to spare”
The Bolsheviks gained most of their initial popularity through protesting WW1. They were the anti-war organization. Tsar Nicolas II was callous and didn’t care
Not really an Eli5 but Fall of Eagles is an interesting dramatization that I would say is soft on him and still makes him look awful.
As a bonus it comes with Patrick Stewart playing Lenin which is great because Patrick Stewart is also a socialist so you know he went into this role with a positive outlook on him unlike a lot of the rest of hollywood would have.
It’s slow in parts by modern standards but still pretty watchable.
