          Dude what’s your deal?

You think they’re going to strike and refuse? This is their last stand? They throw away their job because they will die on this hill?

nah, i wanted some spine on people.

devs aint gonna starve if they refuse a crappy job for another one.

that applies to many things, not just games btw.

a crappy job for another one.

The other job will be just as crappy. Decent dev shops are few and far between. We get paid semi-decently to sell our souls, just as people in other jobs don’t even get paid properly to do the same.

I don’t think you even understand how work actually gets done, let alone how development works.

They develop it, sure, but much like the rest of the game, devs have minimal say in what actually goes into the game.

devs are the rare kind of worker who can choose to work elsewhere without much problems.

Somewhere else where it’s going to end up the same. The industry is shit with this kind of practice, devs can go wherever they want, sure. Assuming this is true, which I have my doubts on, it doesn’t matter if everywhere is doing the same thing.

Most of Big Tech (or Big Anything really) is owned by the same few people through companies like Vanguard. Shitty industry practices come from that crowd, so there’s no escaping them. If you get into a neat company, they are bound to get acquired sooner or later. Fuck, most small companies actually start out aiming for an acquisition now.

Big moving goalposts there. Maybe direct some of that vitriol at the execs, the ones who are actually not doing shit for humanity.

The goalpost is still not having stuff like this just because some asshoIe somewhere wants more money.

And nothing will actually change if workers keep sucking it up and doing the unethical garbage they are told to do. If complaining to them did anything, this wouldn’t be a problem in the first place.

Workers need to eat from every industry. The issue is almost never with them. Let me ask you this, do you have the same level of hate towards the cashiers at Walmart? Or the waiters at the restaurants you go to? No, probably not, so why this unique level of anger towards devs?

I dont have specific hate for any of those professions you mentioned. Thats including developers.

I do think some of these workers (namely software devs, but many others too) have the power to stand up and go elsewhere at the very least.

I don’t think most developers working for a big studio in a first world country are that worried about food though.
