That would work.
Evan just replied to a more recent post that help me. Apparently disconnected chambers will never be far from the main cave. So it my last run I just dug a loop close to the outside of the main cave and ended up hitting a chamber with the gold I was looking for. I’ll probably use this method in future runs.
that method that you mentioned is nice but i will stick to annoy gnoll brutes and purchasing a scroll of magic mapping from the gold they drop
