One mom said she cried for 10 days after hearing she was being removed from her daughter’s birth certificate.

The order also leaves the children of same-sex couples in jeopardy in other ways. “Children end up having limited access to key services and benefits, such as healthcare, inheritance, and child support,” Angelo Schillaci, a law professor at Sapienza University in Rome, told BBC when the policy was first announced. “At present, only one parent is recognized by law, the other one is a ghost. In real life, parents and children play together, cook together, play sports, and go on holiday together. But on paper, they are apart, the state does not see them. It’s a paradoxical situation.”

I understand @Frog’s sentiment, as the actions of the right have moved into cartoon villain territory.

As someone on the left, I always turn away from violence when possible, so I completely understand your viewpoint as well.

But at the same time, there comes a point with fascists where rhetoric and politics won’t serve to protect vulnerable populations from their violence. We’ve reached that point in America, where the police are actively engaged in supporting right-wing insurrectionists.

This is the point at which self-defense is justified, and you simply can’t defend yourself against someone with a gun unless you have one yourself. Sadly, I’m speaking from experience here - been mugged a couple of times at gunpoint, and I’ve had family and friends assaulted because they’re minorities and some MAGAT asshole was looking for someone to beat up.

Will the left violently overthrow the government if they arm up? No, nor could they. But having individual members armed and willing to defend themselves could prevent a lot of the abuse the right is currently getting away with. They’re using militias to intimidate the left - it may be time to build some of our own to counterbalance the effect and protect our vulnerable members.

I suppose so, but in a practical sense they will make laws that will negate your existence and will have police and or military show up at your door to enforce it. There will be no use to have guns then, if they even notice a gun they’ll probably just bomb your entire house like they did to black wall street. They give zero fucks.

You’re right, but that won’t stop the efficacy of arming the left.

The history of the Black Panthers and the subsequent gun control laws speak to that dynamic, and arming ourselves should never be a substitute for strong political action. That being said, there were a lot less lynchings after the Black Panther movement, even after the laws were passed. The impact of a black population being willing to defend itself was a powerful one that echoes forward to this day.

Ultimately what it comes down to is that as long as the right uses their 2nd amendment rights to threaten us, we’re justified in using the same right to defend ourselves.

And you know what? The fascists are going to be a lot more willing to come to the table if they realize we’ve got AK’s too. Given how the right thinks, they might even respect us more for it.

I don’t think you and I are considering the same enemy. I’m considering the guy down the street that has been collecting guns for 30+ years, goes shooting every weekend, and doesn’t like my left leaning perspective when I talk on Nextdoor with other neighbors. That guy might also be a member of DeSantis’s militia. If they are all armed, I want to be as well. They are the threat, not the police, not the actual military.
