      should always be noted this book is a complete piece of shit and good to use as a baseline to realize how much better sci-fi has become since its so-called golden age

        it’s so fucking bad I couldn’t get even halfway through it and quit, and that was ages ago when I was (way more of) a turbolib

        Oh yeah, I remember being shocked at how bad it was when I read it. It was so terrible I lost interest in reading any other Heinlein. I could just imagine him jerking himself off while he wrote it

      I think stranger benefited from the relative dearth of good sci fi at the time, also being bullhorned because its author was a conservative middle class guy. It presented some radical ideas among its heaps if dross, but the second it gets compared to anything else it shows just how bad it is.
