Ever since Iāve came to the company as a sole Sys admin (where there was none before) Iāve tried to keep it simple as possibleā¦ everyone has MS Office Home&Business, Iāll move everyone to Outlook from the damn Windows Live Mailā¦ and sure thing, Iāll also install Outlook on their phones whoever wants to have Email access on their phones.
And itās been a messā¦ people on Windows complaining that they dislike the new Search inside Outlook, sometimes when they try to start it up it doesnāt even open but hangs as a dead process so I had to put a shortcut on their desktop that does ātaskkill /IM outlook.exeāā¦ it happens on both old Windows 10 setups and brand new Windows 11 setups of all kindsā¦ Also theyāre pushing their new look a bit by bit and Iām thinking of migrating to something else before it even happens
On Android sometimes it has hard time syncing with IMAP and the search is also brokenā¦ it doesnāt work at all if only one IMAP account is logged in, so I had to login a dummy IMAP email account as a second one because only then you get the search option of which directories to search for and only then it worksā¦ idk how else to explain this but I found many people complaining about the same thing and using a solution like this for yearsā¦
So, what are your top alternatives for Email clients? It doesnāt have to be free (but a one time payment would be preferable), but it has to be a stable and simple experience for the workers on both Windows and Android. Body
i use thunderbird in my computer and k-9 in the cellphone, thunderbird are sponsoring k-9 too, as the mobile client(not sure if they gonna fork it)
AFAIK k-9 will be rebranded as the official thunderbird app in the future.
Yeah, I think the rebranding is supposed to happen in December and they will start work on an iOS version next year.
Can wait till they come to iPhone.
I will give that combo a shot for a couple of coworkers and see how they will react after a while. Iāve used K-9 2 years ago and it seemed fine, though my company also purchased us Nine Mail and was quite decent. Any thoughts/experiences?
Personally I use Thunderbird but Iāve never used it outside of personal use.
Havenāt really had need for an alternative, since even with about 11k user, on windows, macos, ios and android, we havenāt seen that many problems.
If these are regular problems, maybe it would be better to look into what is causing them?
The only thing that comes to mind which would be our fault is a suboptimal internet connection when it comes to the Outlook not starting properly each timeā¦ but still not an excuse for it to get stuck in a background so we need a hacky solution like that shortcut Iāve madeā¦
Aquamail on Android.
EM Client on Windows.
If youāre below 100 employees, just set up IMAP email forwarding in each user Gmail accout from your email server.
Gmail Android app is superb.
