Hey all,
I live in an old house in the UK that doesn’t have wall cavities - single brick around the exterior.
I want to connect my ground and first floors in preparation for getting 1.6Gb FTTP installed. I plan to route a cable outside up the wall.
I have a switch on each floor with a spare sfp+ port so I have the option of either cat6/7 or fibre. The length between floors should suffice for 10GbE on cat6
Which should I go for? I’m leaning towards fibre as it might be easier to work with and more future proof.
Cheers

as you have a choice, always go with fibre, its cleaner and safer from lightning.
No matter the way you go (I lean to copper less you fancy trying to use pre-made fibre cables) then make sure:
- You use outdoor rated cables
- Shield from sunlight (conduit)
- Put drip loops in where they come back in the house
- Run a spare if you can
- Try and mouse / rat proof them (conduit)
