Hi folks,
I’m not sure what it is i need exactly, so hoping someone can point me in rhe right direction.
In my job, I often receive CDs with large files on them – think medical records with MRI images etc. I need to copy the files from each cd onto my computer, upload to the work server, and burn a copy of the cd to mail out.
Looking for a piece of hardware to help streamline these tasks…I see standalone cd copiers, but those don’t let me connect to the pc.
Is there some version of the above that functions both as a cd copier (two disk drives, one for original one for blank) and will also connect to my pc with a USB cable so that I can easily drag/drop the CD files in file explorer, to upload to our work server?
Much appreciated, happy to clarify if more info is needed!
I’d be surprised if you’d be legally allowed to handle such data with any of the programs suggested here. It’d be best if you reached out to whoever is responsible in your department.
Why not just use two USB dvd-rom drives? Or a desktop with two optical drives?
Something like this?
Obviously this is make for ripping DVD/Blu-Rays, but combined with software like Automatic Ripping Machine, I feel confident that you could automate 90% of this. (Still would need to put disks in, and rename any folders that were created).
Based on the fact that you are dealing with medical files, you likely have HIPPA hoops to jump through, so using a unmanaged second computer might be out of the question. (As an it administrator I would not allow a raspberry pi or similar access to the VPN/Network). You may have luck asking IT for a second computer (that they control), and then do the USB drive option.
