Like Gotye and Kimbra sang: Reddit is “someone that I used to know”! Browsing Lemmy, with some subscribed Kbin magazines, fills that need and I haven’t thought about going and checking out Reddit at all. The one subreddit I still do miss is r/BORU - the (probably fake) stories with updates was great reading! Thanks Lemmy (and Kbin).

I’m still using Reddit for some stuff, but much less than I was. I have no doubt this will fully replace it at some point just as Mastodon has completely replaced Twitter for me.

I can’t use Reddit for most of the day because I don’t want to use their app. So all my energy is going towards the alternatives.

I used Apollo all the time. If they inserted all those ads into Apollo, I’d still be on Reddit. Their app is so horrible that I’ve left.

Same here - I check in on Reddit once a day but only to see what a wasteland it is becoming! I moved from other platforms mostly to Reddit over a decade ago and more than happy to make the change again now.

Liftoff is my Lemmy app of choice, and it is great to see the communities grow and change as time moves on.

I checked Reddit yesterday for the first time in a while and boy do I not miss it. Content is honestly pretty meh these days.

I honestly don’t miss reddit anymore. For a bit there it seemed like Lemmy was lacking in content. That’s no longer the case. Even better is there is less low effort bullshit to sift through to find said content. I don’t want more recent users to come over. We’ve got the good ones already. Let the rest stay where they are.

Agree totally, no sifting through bullshit! It’s really nice and has made me realise what a slog wading through reddit had become.

Likewise. I used to spend hours on Apollo browsing Reddit. Happily Reddit clean since 1st July.

It’s a different software, so no. Also I think Kbin doesn’t have an API

It is usable on mobiles, that’s what broke for me. Punch in to zoom to “home”, pinch in to upvote, different levels of text.

At home, on my laptop, I use Reddit as before on the old design, but on my cell phone? No chance. So in that area, Mastodon/Lemmy/KBin has taken over my Reddit usage, yes, completely.

Saaaame. I realise how much I was just doom scrolling reddit before without actually engaging in any conversation. Obligatory: Lemmy is so much like reddit used to be!

I still check on Reddit to look things up in some niche communities that didn’t move over. Reddit’s sheer size is not to be underestimate as a value. That said, other than that, the browsing feeling is great.

I hope Reddit continues it’s trajectory of fucking up and more people will fill the niche places in the fediverse.

Yeah, the main reason I keep lurking there is because it’s just a great way to keep up with things. For example, during the last few years I’d never miss out on any important tennis matches or One Piece chapter releases thanks to their subreddits. For more general news the fediverse has been good enough.

It’s getting there. Kbin just needs a full-featured app and I’ll be ready to settle in here for the next decade. ArtemisApp is coming along nicely, though.

Hey I’m new to all this and trying to wrap my head around instances. What are the Kbin magazines you speak of? Do you recommend any to subscribe to?

Hi, Sub.rehab is the only place I know of to find Kbin magazines. I subscribe to the Kbin.Social RedditMigration and 3D Printing magazines. I’m subscribed to 60 Lemmy communities and 2 Kbin magazines, so plenty of content appears when I select Subscribed/Active. How to subscribe to Kbin magazines from Lemmy is shown in this post YSK how to subscribe to kbin magazines from lemmy. How to subscribe to Lemmy communities that are on other instances is detailed my comment in this post (Note: there is probably a better way!) What’s the best way to find instances and communities?. Note: Something I don’t understand yet, is that all the links (above) are from my home instance’s point of view (https://aussie.zone), so what happens when someone (like you) opens the links? Are you now linking to a community on your home instance via another instance???

Magazines are like subreddits. You can use the link in the top menu to look at the current list of magazines. I don’t personally have a list to recommend, but I’m sure others will.

Same feeling here, I’m actually surprised I don’t miss Reddit at all after all these years
