Hey folks!
I think I usually write too much, so I will try to keep it short and sweet this time.
Discord
I have created an official Discord server for lemm.ee! This is mostly intended as a back-up channel to share announcements with users - for example, if there is ever an incident and lemm.ee is offline, I can send updates about the situation in Discord. But feel free to join if you just want to chat with other lemm.ee users as well!
You can join the Discord at this link: https://discord.gg/XM9nZwUn9K
New admins
Two new admins have been added to the team! @[email protected] and @[email protected] have stepped up and volunteered to help me take care of the report queue. I think having good admins is super important to ensure a pleasant experience for all users, so I’m super happy that we have users who were willing to share this responsibility with me.
My hope is that adding a few more admins has helped ensure that I am less of a single point of failure for lemm.ee now. I am still considering maybe adding one or two more admins in the near future, but in terms of actual workload, I think the current team is already a pretty good size.
Anyway, that’s all I have for you for now - please join the Discord if that’s something you’re interested in, and please welcome our new admins!
Edit: @[email protected] has been added as an admin as well!
For now, I believe this is a good size for the team, we won’t be adding any more admins in the near future. A big thanks to all who responded to the call for admins!
Hey everyone.
Happy to come on board the admin team. Like Sunaurus said, I’ll be mainly keeping an eye on content and handling your reports. Don’t hesitate to reach out if needed.
Cheers!
Hi there, thanks for helping keep the instance running smoothly!
This is easily the best Lemmy sever I have experienced. Great work.
The admin is extremely high-functioning IME.
He updates users frequently, and is very good at explaining what’s going on without getting lost in tech-speak. He’s personally attended to one of my issues (avatar upload problem) with a quickness, even doing so via email. He also took the time to help Lemmy.World with their recent attack. Lastly, altho FV instances evidently can cost as little as US$10-20/m, he runs a beefy setup with a lot of security and high-end stability, spending US$200/m to do so.
Sunaurus is a friggn’ boss IMO.
Absolutely. Sunaurus’s communication and the friendliness of this instance is why I came here when VLemmy went down. I have nothing but praise for the way this instance is run and for its performance.
this is my daily driver now, loads a lot quicker than some of the heavier instances
Thanks for telling - and I wish lots of boring days for new admins. :)
'cause interesting days would mean folks can’t behave
Thank you for the warm welcome. Happy to be helping the communities.
Any plans on adding a Matrix bridge?
or just a matrix social channel if nothing else?
Plus one for this.
I really like how this is a neutral server and not too big :)
I just joined form lemmy.world after they were targeted by the XSS attack, and the responsiveness of the instance went to shit.
This is actually my first comment here so it’s also a bit of a test to see if comments work better than they are over there.
Edit: Instant post, I love it.
Welcome! I joined because @[email protected] really seems to know his stuff. It feels like we’re always at the forefront of lemmy development. Speedy posts are just one example of that!
A publicaly viewable mastodon account for major announcements and (most importantly) downtime notices would be super nice if y’all have the time.
I like when you write a lot, hahah. This was a good length too, though :D
Not to be That Guy, but Discord is another corporate proprietary walled garden just like Twitter and Reddit and given recent experiences I think it should be avoided by the Fediverse community. See also this blog post (I am not affiliated with its author, I just think it expresses the point well).
There are several alternatives. If you want real-time chat, Matrix or IRC would work. If you just want to make announcements, an RSS feed or mailing list would do the trick.
Just my two cents. Thanks for your work in setting up and maintaining this instance!

Hey! To be clear, [email protected] will remain the main communication channel going forward. I am already on Matrix as well, so for sure during any Lemmy incidents I will be active in the Lemmy channels on Matrix - if you’re already on Matrix, you’re covered.
This Discord is just something supplementary, specifically aimed at people who are not using Matrix. There won’t be any announcements that are only made on Discord or anything like that!
Which Matrix channels? I made an account on matrix.org before but didn’t see any channels that interested me.
Is there a benefit of Matrix vs Revolt? I’ve not looked into either of them really. Revolt was the one everyone seemed to be pushing recently. This is the first I’ve heard of Matrix.
Matrix is more established and also decentralized. It can do End-To-End-Encryption and is backed by more people.
Welcome @[email protected] and @[email protected]. I may be new to this instance, but I have always held a high opinion of lemm.ee and am happy to see the admin team expand!
Thank you for all the work you’re doing for this instance; welcome new admins! 👋
👋
What about the hack on lemmy.world? Did it affect lemm.ee?
The admin here helped fix Lemmy.world.
The admin here helps fix lemmy in general :D
It did not.
Oh, that’s great! Thanks!
You could check out the several other posts they made on the topic…
I did not see any posts on my feed. I’ll need to check my lemmy settings, I suppose?
Thanks for another informative post and a very warm welcoyo the new admins! Good to see a discord server up and running
Hola!
