Marie Curie was one of the first time travelers. She went back to ancient Greece but Plato hit her with a chariot. When she woke they asked her who she was and she panicked, telling everyone she was the god of speed.
I don’t know if this is a joke or not? Can you explain it?
It’s a joke. The element with atomic number 96 was named Curium (symbol Cm) in honor of Marie Curie (and I guess Pierre Curie too).
Mercury is a different element, known since the Antiquety (not as a periodic-table-element of course, but they knew it as a thing since before the Egypt pyramids were built, (like gold, copper, chloride, etc)). It has atomic number 80, and its symbol is “Hg”, from the greek name “hydrargyrum”. But people called it “mercury” centuries before Marie was even born.
It’s also called quicksilver.
