One of the most frustrating things about the job hunt is that the standard practices vary by industry and from one decade to the next. So we have outdated information from college/university, even more outdated information that they drilled into us in high school, and insufferable boomers telling us to just walk in at the busiest time of day and demand to speak to a manager.
Variations of this happened to both me and my sister in the past year:
- Apply to McBurgerBell on grabba job dot com.
- Fill out 20 pages of forms and personality tests.
- Select an appointment time for an interview from an online calendar.
- Receive email: “Hey! Your appointment has been scheduled for 7:00 PM Tuesday!”
- Confirm appointment via email link.
- Receive text on Monday: “Appointment reminder: interview tomorrow at 7.”
- Receive text on Tuesday morning: “Looking forward to your interview this evening!”
- Show up at McBurgerBell at 7 PM: “There must be some mistake, we haven’t been hiring for 6 months.”
He was never technically granted the rank of master though. What a liar.

And we should all be claiming high level experience at Twitter right now too.
I just have chat gpt pepper seo terms through my lackluster resume. “Loaded pallets and cargo with the utmost care for customer privacy and a go-getter attitude”
They check resumes with an algo, at this point using an algo to punch your resume up aught to be standard practice.
