SIDEBAR:

All things Arthropoda (not just Insecta)!

Share pictures, ask questions, and solicit identification. Higher-quality pictures are easier to identify. Do not guess the species of an insect, use a dichotomous key to be sure.

Please understand that handling wild animals, bugs or otherwise, can be dangerous. Seek immediate medical attention if you’ve been bitten or stung by something.

Sweet! There are some additional more specific arthropod communities (arachnids and myriapods off the top of my head) on mander.xyz if anyone is looking.

If you’re able to link them here (still learning) I will add them to the sidebar. “bugs” on lemmy.world will just be a mostly fluffy place for pretty pictures and quick IDs so it would be epic to be able to point people towards more scientific or specialized communities!

Should be fixed. The instructions specifically say include “either” that format or the one I used. Why did the one I chose (at random) not work, out of curiosity?

Look at the username - you’re talking to a bot ;)

… but to answer your question, from totally legit real human to totally legit real human, the links DO work for you and people on the same instance as you (so of course you won’t notice any issues if you check the link yourself), but might cause trouble for people visiting this site from other instances as it will give them the wrong “layout”.

Just an example: people on kbin.social will see your community displayed like this: https://kbin.social/m/[email protected] with the kbin layout, interface and functionality. If those people click on a link beginning with “lemmy.world” they will get the layout of lemmy.world instead, which might make it harder for them to navigate the site properly as they’re not used to it.
