I don’t see any rules or guidelines for posting in the side bar, so was curious how we feel about posts with qualifying and race results? The f1 sub always posts a graphic with the top 3 as well as the classification, while the other f1 community here on Lemmy has a rule against posting any spoilers. Personally I always liked seeing the results and reading the discussions about them on the subreddit, but curious to see others opinions.
I think spoilers in posts and comments are fine, I’d just like to avoid spoilers in thumbnails and titles. I don’t think it’s that hard to avoid F1 content if you know you won’t be watching live.
Due to time zones I almost never watch F1 live, but I just avoid places where the results may be discussed.
If we don’t allow people to to discuss what happens in the race this space will die. Even banning spoilers from titles would be pretty bad, it would just lead to posts with useless titles like “Verstappen does thing in race”
When I can not wach live I avoid all F1 media, this is live event and escaping that will only hurt community.
Just imagine calling your friends to watch recording of Superbowl.
Even more, how long delay should be there?
If there’s post race penalties, crashes, important overtakes etc. its inevitable that spoilers will be posted with news/videos.
When I can’t watch a race live and plan on watching it later I avoid places that discuss formula 1.
Edit: Not to forget, we don’t have a mod to enforce any rules at the minute.

Cheeky
Since you’re active right now, is it possible to get some clarification on what rules you enforce and how you envision this community?
There is for example a Formuladank style post that has been up for 18h. Is shitposting allowed?
If not, more mods might be needed to enforce and clean up as this place grows, particularly to cover multiple time zones.
We’ve just put a small mod team together, we’ll get some sidebar rules up shortly, currently we’ll remove anything offensive or off topic and assess other types of posts on their own merit
Great news, thank you!
If I may suggest, I think many here would prefer shitposting to be kept to Formuladank, so maybe putting a link to that community in the sidebar would help direct people there?
I’m my defence there were a lot of people questioning what was happening and no answers.
If you had login issues that’s fine. Shit happens.
Yeah still having hiccups, I’m sure its because the server is relatively new and not used to the traffic
Another issue is I think the moderator is somewhat dormant and there’s no current process in lemmy to replace or add new ones without their approval. Bit of a lawless land at the moment. Formula1 on lemmy.ml has active moderators and sidebar and pinned posts, but very slightly less engagement though quite close.
The moderator of this sub was at least active today, so they are not completely absent. However, with the amount of activity here and considering how absent they appear throughout the week (and nothing wrong with being busy IRL!) it would probably be a good idea to get in touch with them and see if we can appoint another mod or two to lighten the load.
I saw a post a couple days ago where some members were trying to get in touch with him. I wonder if anything came of that. We did get the discussions pinned so that’s something at least.
If you check the modlog the user [email protected] was moderator for 7 minutes two days ago. Not sure what’s going on with that.
c/Football also had a fairly inactive Admin but the community managed to get in touch with him and he appointed a second mod who has been much more active. That seems like the best way to go. And in general this place will probably be too large soon for a single mod anyway, especially considering F1 needs coverage across multiple time zones.
After I made the post I got in contact with the lemmy.world admins and one of them made me mod for a few minutes and then removed me after he saw that the current mod is not completely inactive and said he’ll also try to see if he would be fine with me also being a mod (which to me is the best option, I don’t want to step on any toes). I’m still waiting to see what happens.
Hopefully we’ll get some more mods and some rules going because this community seems to be growing a bit faster than the one on Lemmy.ml
That’s great, I saw you post frequently, it’d be a good development for this community if you were added as a mod. Hope the current mod responds positively
That’s good to hear. Hopefully you guys are able to get something worked out. It’s fun seeing this community grow, just needs some guidelines to help it keep going.
Yeah, I’m having a hard time picking my go-to F1 community.
What is going on with the moderation here? This community seems slightly more active, especially the live race threads, but the lemmy.ml community has clearer guidelines and way more mods.
I don’t watch either qualifying or the race live, more often on a several hour delay. So I absolutely hate those posts that have the results as a picture because it’s all too easy to accidentally see the results while scrolling through a feed.
I would much prefer that the post title be something like “British GP Race Results” and then the results in the first comment, not the body of the opening post, that way I can scroll through my feed and not accidentally see the results while leaving people who know the results to discuss the subject.
Anyway, that’s my 2 pence worth!
I mod the Lemmy.ml F1 community.
Our subscribers voted for no spoilers in post titles, but that is the only place spoilers are not permitted. It was a close vote, with around 50% voting for no spoilers, the rest being split between spoilers and unsure.
A spoiler for us is defined as a piece of information which allows users to derive a driver’s finishing position of a competitive session.
Feels like that is a reasonable compromise. Thumbnails and post content is not moderated currently. With some clients not rendering the spoiler tags on the post preview, we felt it was pointless trying to enforce them.
Good to see how active this place has become!
There should be no spoilers in titles or OPs. Let people discuss spoilers in the comments, but especially in Motorsport I feel like having a spoiler flash on screen before you get to watch the race can really spoil the experience.
I feel like it would be difficult to moderate a bunch of posts, especially if they intend to discuss specific topics from races. People might not have the motivation to change “Verstappen spins out on lap 10” to remove all spoilers.
Yea it’s a good question, I’m definitely guilty of it myself. Unsure how best to address it though as the convention is to post articles with the headline verbatim as the post title. Do we change that and just post articles with a spoiler free summary as the title?
I had a multi Reddit with all the F1 and Motogp stuff separate from my home feed just for this purpose. Hoping one of the lemmy apps can get something similar going. The only way I could really avoid spoilers especially since I couldn’t always watch the race until a day or two later sometimes.
