Oliver Tambo, born on this day in 1917, was a South African anti-apartheid politician and revolutionary who served as President of the African National Congress (ANC) from 1967 to 1991.

In 1943, Tambo, along with Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu, founded the ANC Youth League, with Tambo becoming its first National Secretary and a member of the National Executive in 1948. The Youth League proposed a change in the tactics of the anti-apartheid movement, advocating boycotts, civil disobedience, strikes, and non-collaboration.

In 1960, Tambo fled South Africa due to political persecution, living in exile in north London for thirty years. From London, he supported and helped organize the ANC in the fight against apartheid from a distance. On December 13th, 1990, Tambo returned to South Africa and was elected National Chairperson of the ANC.

    Fucking awful day at new job. So tired of pretending to be a “normal” person looking for “career advancement opportunities” (as if I want to advance into being a soulless corpo minion of orthodoxy or do wage-labor at all) and “great benefits” (that I already know are going to have a million barriers to access and a trillion caveats). So tired of the same old corpo bullshit slogans like “our workplace is different!” and “we’re like a family” while you can see the faces of the tortured souls actually doing the work on the shop floor looking dead inside and knowing you’ll soon be joining them. Stfu the only reason I’m here is not to starve or be homeless, the more you tell me I need to be a good “”“representative”“” of the company looking out for the company’s best interest the more I wanna steal, unionize, and do industrial sabotage.

      OH! Fun fact about this particular company

      On some of their workstations they are running some kind of Linux. They are using a WM that looks like JWM and they have configured fucking conky to show information related to the work being done.

      What the fuck. Love seeing products of free, creatively-applied labor (barely including Linux because that is basically for-profit product these days) being appropriated to use as tools in the extraction of surplus value. Maybe I have said too much specific info but I don’t care.
