Came here because RIF shut down and I can’t believe how bad the regular reddit app is. Here’s hoping that Lemmy is the new reddit!

I did the exact same thing just today. Here’s hoping! I can see there’s growing pains, but that just means there’s growing to be done.

Same here. Tried the official reddit app and its bad. Even tweaking with the settings, the lack of many features is noticeable.

for our writing, we discovered no character limit (or one that counts properly…) and have started to move our content here. Even if it’s just a side or secondary site, it seems to work great.

I’ve tried using the official app for some of my favourite subreddits and it’s awful. A cluttered mess that’s difficult to navigate, the complete opposite of rif… Just gave up after a while. This place is looking promising though and I’m happy to see so many familiar communities already.

Yeah, I used Reddit exclusively through RIF. It was perfect for what I wanted out of the site.

A sad day. But now I’m here via Jerboa and like it a lot so far.

Thanks for the app, @talklittle. I purchased RIF back in 2012 and it has been the only way I’ve used reddit on mobile ever since. Sad to see it go.

RIF is why I’m here, I deleted it from my front page, realized I hated going to the reddit website, and looked for something better.

I know he’s working on something different, for a different site, but I also hope he’s considering a LIF or something like that.

    A decade of a truly-superior user experience.

I can’t even bring myself to delete it. I feel like it needs to stay memorialized in my app list.

Thanks for such a great product, devs. It’ll be sorely missed.

I was going to leave Apollo on my phone but it kept showing up on my Home Screen in my smart widget and I kept tapping it to open it so it had to go :(

I’m having the same issue, haha – that muscle memory is gonna take some time to fade.

Maybe I’ll just disable it but know it’s always there 😅

Thank you talklittle! You made redditing so enjoyable with RiF. I was introduced to your app about a decade ago and never stopped using it. I spent years writing exhaustive and informative comments, none of it would’ve been possible without the functionality of RiF.

I’m glad to see you on the Fediverse now :)

    RIP RIF

tbf i didn’t actually stop using redditisfun. I followed the guide to patching RIF with revanced which changes the user agent of the app to hide from reddit that you’re using redditisfun

    The instructions are here https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/14niwgu/revanced_patches_for_boost_infinity_rif_is_fun?sort=new

Gonna plug revanced here, too, since i already had revanced because i use it to have adfree YouTube and YouTube music with unlimited skips. Been using it since it was called vanced, when they just shared modified APKs. Then Google shut them down with a cease and desist letter so revanced was born. It’s a system for patching apps yourself which gives the developers a bit more legal cover.

RIF made Reddit tolerable as the site declined in recent years. I might go back for the live NFL game threads but hopefully Lemmy gets some good sport communities by then. The Connect app has been decent so far but RIF was near perfect in it’s simplicity - I hope other app developers take note.

I’ll miss Reddit and mostly RIF, but I’m not staying on that sinking ship. I hope Lemmy and Mastodon will get more and more traffic so it just replaces these toxic platforms at one point.

RIP RIF, you will be missed.

RIF was what Reddit looked like to me. Used it for over a decade. I paid for it once and it was ad free always after that. Good bye old friend

RIF should be a case study in UX/UI design: it’s user satisfaction (and really addiction) were a direct result to the ease of use of the interface and the speed with which you could consume content.

I fucking miss RIF already, and it’s not been 24 hours yet. When’s the last time you felt this way about an app?

Just realized I’ve been using RIF from start to finish… 14 years. Everything else was shit. And that’s not just kind of my opinion.

That’s one thing Reddit doesn’t somehow grasp: They outsourced their brand experience a long time ago when they were late to building an app of their own. To me and many others, reddit definitely is reddit is fun. There’s no putting that genie back in the bottle.
