Hey all, figured I’d start doing a free talk thread if people are interested. I had one back on Reddit that I was in and it’s fun to just post whatever thoughts your having throughout the day (especially when work is boring).

I’m sure it’ll take some time to get going, and if there’s no interest I won’t spam. Just figured I’d see how it goes!

I stayed up til 6:00am going through random communities so I’m tired as hell. But I can confirm that this fulfils my procrastination streak just as much as Reddit did. I like the idea of a daily “so what you up to?”. Could be interesting to see how mundane all our lives are.

Never been involved in one so i have to ask what the point of it is as the chat community already appears (to me) to serve the same lurpose

The main difference is that it’s all in one place within a post each day. So it can be ongoing comment chains throughout the day within a post instead of needing to create a post for each new thought/topic. So if I want to just chat/dialogue with some folks I’m not clicking in and out, I’m just scrolling down a thread and interacting there.

There’s definitely a little bit of overlap with the main community, just a different form of interacting for folks who are interested.

Going to try barbecuing in the rain later with a charcoal grill, not exactly sure how well it’s going to work but oh well.

Spending most of my day today loving the fact that it’s cardigan weather where I live. Although I did just discover that I’m wearing a woman’s cardigan (not a big deal). Turns out that whole “button on the wrong side” thing from The Office is actually real.

As a lefty, I find this practice dumb. Wear what you like and how it fastens easier for you!

Lol no doubt. I noticed it more because of the sizing. I’m a large in men’s and was struggling to button this thing (xl) so it was throwing me off for a bit!

Can def see that after being used to them one way for so long! I remember young getting a coat that was for the opposite sex,it was sooo much easier to button for me. Made me wonder why neither sex was allowed to be a lefty for ages, lol.

It’s weird how often this comes up. I can’t imagine life as a lefty. This happens with golf clubs, all sorts of sports stuff in general. Used golf clubs for lefties are always $100-$200 more.

My thing is womens jeans. So many women complain about having these tiny little useless pockets. Fine, wear small mens jeans then. Sizings are different since its based on waste inches instead of whatever womens are based on.

Yeah I’m not even sure what the formula is for that. Are they just arbitrary numbers designed to make people feel bad about themselves? Like the numbers are so low. It make sense to do it by inch or whatever.

That being said I also ran into issues wearing jeans because as guys we wear our jeans at our hips, not up higher. I kept buying pants that were too big because I was measuring my stomach.

(wow this thread is making me seem not very smart lol)

Right, i have no clue what their numbering system is. It really does make women feel bad if they have to buy bigger clothes

The problem is women have defined hips that men don’t usually have, so a 32" men’s jean doesn’t adjust for a 40" hip.

Yeah I posted this above but it’s also just a difference in how men/women traditionally have worn their pants. Men wear theirs down around the hips, not at the actual waist. So I kept measuring and buying pants that were too big because I was measuring at my stomach. All my pants ended up being 2-3 inches too long.

Hmm, okay. At least the women i know who have tried mens jeans have always had to go with the smallest they could find to keep them from being to large

Exactly. If we wear men’s jeans that fit our hips properly = the waist size is huge.

          Haha!

I’m a woman who is built more like man and have a similar issue. Men’s medium is a bit snug for my liking so large is best, but switching to women’s sizing has me in a xxl that fits my chest but looks like a muumuu at my waist.

It’s been interesting seeing how these communities grow and merge over time. I’m new to Lemmy, but it’ll be fun to see what happens and if all these different communities will merge or consolidate.

It’s especially cool to see the country/language specific instances. I feel like Reddit was very Americanized (politics = U.S. politics). It’s nice to go take a look at what’s going on everywhere else in a structured way.
