Bleijie said the LNP remained committed to the Sunshine Coast rail extension.
Fuck me I’m confused about what’s going on with the Sunshine Coast line. I feel like just a couple of days ago I was reading that the line was pretty definitively cancelled. Here’s hoping the LNP sticks to their word and actually gets it delivered before the Olympics in 2032…
I particularly find the “peak period crowding” diagram the article showed. It makes an incredibly strong case for finally going in and completing the Northwest Transport Corridor from Carseldine to Alderley. I’ve drawn it in on this map to show where it goes. The map is extremely not to scale (it shows Mitchelton as slightly east of Roma Street), but the key feature is that Geebung to Bowen Hills gets very crowded, and that is precisely the bit that would be bypassed by the NWTC.
Bonus points if they tunnelled the NWTC from Newmarket or Wiston through to the Valley. (Extra bonus points if the entire length of it was designed with future expansion into high speed rail in mind.)
